When you exceed a clients expectations it helps to increase the net promoter score which will increase the chances that that client will then go out and talk about you and your brand and your product or service to their friends and family and anybody that they talk to who is in need of a similar product or service that you offer. These people would be ranking your company as a 9 or 10 on a 1 to 10 scale. As an employee you can stand out of the crowd by doing more than is expected of you and more than your boss asked you to do. Look for things within the business that you know should be getting done and where the ball is being dropped and find out how you can learn the skills needed to fill in those holes and then make sure that the people know that you are acquiring the skills needed to fill that gap and grow the company.
