NBA Hall of Fame basketball player and now business coach, David Robinson, has teamed up with Thrive15.com, an business coach online website, to share his experience with starting a school and capital group. To Robinson, who is also a two-time NBA Champion, starting from where someone is and with the resources they have, is essential. Passion takes center stage in the business training, How to Start Where You Are with What You Have.

In his training on Thrive15.com, Robinson gets into the challenges he has faced throughout his own career and how starting a school and moving from the NBA to entrepreneurship has been a tough process. Robinson says, when forming his school, that it was important that he had the expertise needed to excel as an educator. Robinson recollects his thoughts while building the school, “I can deal with messing up my checkbook. Messing with these kids’ lives is not acceptable.”

Robinson goes on to speak specifically about starting a business or organization by saying, “If you’re starting a venture, you have to know it’s your passion.” Robinson’s passion for starting the Carver Academy, led him to assemble a team to help him meet his goals. For Robinson, building a team of experts was crucial in his success. Robinson founded the Carver Academy in 2001 with a mission to train elementary-age children to become disciplined leaders with integrity. In 2007, Robinson co-found the Admiral Capital Group, a private equity firm whose portfolio includes nine upscale hotels, Centerplate, one of the top hospitality companies in the world, and Academy Sports + Outdoors.

Out of his passion for education, Robinson, a U.S. Naval Academy alumnus, and web-based learning company, Thrive15.com, have partnered with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes Program to provide practical business training for America’s military. NBA Hall of Famer Teaches Leadership on Thrive15.com as Business Coach

Leadership is an essential skill for success in any industry and within any company or business. NBA Hall of Fame basketball player and two-time NBA Champion, David Robinson, has years of experience on and off the court in effectively leading teams of people. Robinson lives by the principle of “leading by example” and has demonstrated this throughout his career.

In his training on Thrive15.com, titled Leading by Example, Robinson shares what has helped him become a successful leader during his career. Robinson explains that his career was predicated upon him doing the best he could at his job. Unfortunately, as Robinson relates, just doing his job was not enough to inspire others to do theirs well. As Robinson states, “You have to understand that responsibility.”

Robinson remembers back in the training of the opportunities he had as a college athlete to play on international teams. He noticed that everyone was looking to him to step up into the leadership role. Some people, Robinson points out, just are naturally gifted leaders. Whether a natural-born leader or someone who has had to work their way up into a leadership role, Robinson says that the team will feed off of the leader’s energy.
