Most people live their entire lives never discovering what they’re truly capable of. They settle for less. They accept mediocrity. They make excuses instead of making progress. But not you. Not today.

Today, you’re going to learn about the most important skill you can ever develop, the ability to push yourself when nobody else will. Let me tell you something that might shock you. Success is not about talent. It’s not about luck. It’s not about having the right connections or being born into the right family. Success is about developing the discipline to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done, whether you feel like it or not.

That’s what separating yourself from the crowd is all about. That’s what pushing yourself really means. I’ve spent decades studying successful people and I can tell you this with absolute certainty. Every single person who has achieved something significant in their life had to push themselves beyond their comfort zone. They had to do things that scared them. They had to take action when they didn’t feel ready.

They had to persist when everything inside them wanted to quit. The difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is not that successful people don’t feel fear, doubt or resistance. The difference is that they push through it anyway. They understand that growth and comfort cannot coexist. They know that if you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done. Think about this for a moment.

Every single day you have a choice. You can choose to push yourself or you can choose to coast. You can choose to challenge yourself or you can choose to stay comfortable. You can choose to grow or you can choose to remain the same. The beautiful thing about life is that these choices are always yours to make. Nobody can make them for you and nobody can take them away from you.

But here’s what I want you to understand. Your life will be a direct reflection of the choices you make consistently, day after day, year after year. If you consistently choose the easy path, your life will be difficult. If you consistently choose the difficult path, your life will be easy. That’s one of the great paradoxes of life. And it’s something that most people never figure out.

When I say push yourself, I’m not talking about driving yourself into the ground. I’m not talking about working yourself to exhaustion or ignoring your health and relationships. I’m talking about something much more profound. I’m talking about developing the mental discipline to do what you know you should do, even when you don’t feel like doing it. See, we all have two voices inside our heads. One voice says you can do it.

You have what it takes.

Go for it.

The other voice says it’s too hard. You’re not ready. What if you fail? The voice you listen to will determine the quality of your life. The voice you feed will grow stronger. The voice you starve will grow weaker.

Successful people have learned to feed the right voice. They’ve learned to push past the voice of doubt and fear. They’ve developed what I call the discipline of doing. They do what needs to be done when it needs to be done, whether they feel like it or not. And here’s the amazing thing. The more you practice this discipline, the easier it becomes.

Interview Chris Hogan, Dave Ramsey protege, who joins us to share about his new book, Every Day Millionaires. how ordinary people build extraordinary wealth, and how you can too. Chris Hogan’s new book is based upon the largest study ever conducted on United States millionaires. This guy rounded up 10 ,000 United States millionaires and asked them questions to discover their patterns, their habits, their routines. What is it that makes them super successful? And on today’s show, he distills the wisdom that he has learned as a result of investing years of research to discover the habits and the routines of the millionaire mindset.

Well, the reality is based on this study that we did, we found that 79 % of the millionaires that we talked to didn’t inherit a dime. You control your destiny. No matter where you are. are right now, you have an opportunity to make a decision. And where you are doesn’t have to be where you end up. I want you to grow forward, get the relationships, the right people around you, believe in yourself, but take action right now.

One of the stats that I absolutely loved was 98 % of the millionaires that I talked to, 98%, which is virtually all of them, said this, that they feel that they control their own destiny. One of the things I’m trying to emphasize is I need people to look inside internally at themselves. I’m not worried about people’s opinions. People’s opinions are like yesterday’s. I’m worried about what you believe what’s possible for you. You know, luck doesn’t exist.

We’ve heard this phrase that luck favors the prepared. 64 % of these millionaires that I talked to described that they loved their career. And I thought that that’s a strong statement. I am your father.

On today’s show, we’re interviewing Chris Hogan, who many consider to be America’s trusted voice on retirement. He’s the man with the plan. Chris Hogan, welcome on to the Thrive Time Show. How are you, sir?

I am fantastic, guys. Thank you very, very much for having me.

Everything sounds more excellent.

No matter what he says.

I just want to I just want to call him up and just talk to him late at night. Just hey, Chris, what’s up?

It’s like when you have a British friend, you sound smarter with Chris everything. He just sounds more incredible. So Chris, I want to ask you, my friend, you you’ve had huge success with your career. But what was life like for you growing up? Where did it all start?

Well, I was born and raised in Kentucky, central Kentucky, and so I grew up with a big family that was loving, highly competitive. Our games of Scrabble and Uno involved a lot of muscle, sweat, and serious strategy. But I grew up in a family with a lot of love and a lot of care, so I was very fortunate.

So when did you figure out what you wanted to do professionally?

You know, I honestly figured it out. I thought I did in seventh grade. I knew I wanted to go into the FBI. I’d always been intrigued by that and really kind of had that as a goal all throughout my life, moving up in through college and even into grad school. But it was really having a chance to mentor with an agent as I got closer in the application process where I began to kind of learn some of the not so good nuances of that career and some of the dangers and So I shifted and went into the business route, and as a former athlete, I knew if I could create a sport type of environment and that kind of level of camaraderie with my team members, that there was nothing we couldn’t accomplish.

For people out there that aren’t as familiar with your background, what sports did you compete in?

I played, growing up, I played baseball, football, and track. When I got to college, I played purely on football there and had an opportunity to play all four years.

Wow. So you’ve excelled as an athlete.

You did well academically.

How did you first get connected with Dave Ramsey, the talk show host and the financial guru? Yeah, it’s interesting. I had been living in Tennessee about two and a half years at that time, knew of Dave, but I got a chance to get connected with him through a charity event.

And that’s where I had a chance to not only get connected more with him, but really get a chance to meet him and sit down and talk with him.

When did you first feel like you were beginning to gain traction with Dave or a connection where you knew you might have something magical together? Well, I could tell in as far as how not only I felt, but also the people around me. I’m a leader of people. I love engaging people. I love helping people think bigger for themselves. As a former athlete, I approach leadership like coaching. I approach business like a coach as well.

And so, you know, seeing people make progress, you know, coming from the help or guidance you’ve given them, that’s a great thing to see and to be able to feel. So your new book is designed to do just that, to give people an encouragement, to give them direction, to walk people down a practical path. It’s called Everyday Millionaires, How Ordinary People Built Extraordinary Wealth and How You Can Too.

What first inspired you to sit down and write this book?

Can I be honest with you?

Yeah. OK. out to prove without a shadow of a doubt if it’s possible. So we did the largest study that’s ever been done.

We talked to over 10 ,000 millionaires all across the U .

S.

and I wanted to dig in and find out the truth.

What was your process like for getting a hold of these 10 ,000 millionaires?

Did you call them?

Did you fax them?

Did you text them? It was massive.

Yeah, what did you do? It was massive. First, we started reaching out to people, obviously, that are in my tribe or in Dave’s tribe, people that know us and are aware. And we got to around 4 ,000 there. But then I said, no, we need to make sure we’re talking to people out in white space. So we actually engaged with a research firm to help us reach out to get people all across the United States.

And so this was a year and a half long research research project to really dig in and get all the information that we needed for this study. In your book, again, Everyday Millionaires, How Ordinary People Built Extraordinary Wealth and How You Can Too, some of the stats there are mind -blowing. You report that 74 % of millennials and 52 % of baby boomers believe millionaires inherited all of their wealth.

How is this very different from reality? Well, the reality is, based on this study that we did, we found that 79 % of the millionaires that we talked to didn’t inherit a dime. 79 % now this is important because of a few reasons if you believe the only way that you can have wealth is to inherit it and you come from a family that doesn’t have any then you feel like you’re excluded and it’s not possible and Reality is as these millionaires were first -generation millionaires These were all people that built wealth over time By being intentional with their money and having a plan and this was important because I wanted people to know the truth That these millionaires are not trust fund babies. They’re not someone in a slick suit in front of a fancy car in front of a mansion. These are hard -working men and women that have built wealth over time. And if they can do it, you can too.

And so I really wanted to drill in and for people to see the characteristics, understand the process.

process so they can get on the path themselves. Chapter one of your book, if listeners out there buy the book and open it up, it’s called You’ve Been Lied To. As I was looking through this, I was saying, oh yeah, someone needs to hear this right now, because I grew up without money and I know what it’s like to have a false reality or a false perception of reality as to the way the world works and how it relates to money.

What is chapter one all about, You’ve Been Lied To? Well, I needed to set it up. I needed everybody to understand the reality and the myths that we’ve been told, that you have to go to a fancy school, that you have to inherit it, that you have to make a large salary in order to build wealth. I wanted to hit all those things up front so people could start to realize and go, man, I’ve thought some of this, or I thought all of that was true. So I could systematically begin to show them the truth. And the reality is, is it doesn’t matter where you go to school.

62 % of the million you know, as you look at this, they didn’t go to a private school. They went to a public state university. 9 % of them went to community college. 8 % didn’t graduate, didn’t go to college at all. So it’s all these prerequisites that we tend to have in the back of our minds that unfortunately we can start to believe is true. And unfortunately, if we believe that, then we feel excluded from it.

And I don’t want people to feel excluded. I want them to feel included in this opportunity.

They just have to wake up and start taking the steps.

Dr. Z, you now own a bank, and you once washed dishes.

Yes.

You now own an auto auction.

Yes, that’s true.

A piece of an auto auction? No, I own the whole thing. You now own an optometry clinic. You now own several multi -million dollar companies, and you started off washing dishes.

Do you disagree strongly with Chris Hogan? Were you given a silver spoon, and that was your key to the universe when you were washing dishes? No, I think, obviously, Chris has the numbers, and he’s positive. and it’s a shame that people out there don’t understand. I mean, we had a gentleman on the other day that had come from Ukraine at 13 years of age, and they had $2 in their pocket when they immigrated over. His father, his mother, I think he had a couple, three other siblings.

He was on the show the other day, Mr. Shark, and it was so refreshing because he said, you know what, it was so exciting to come to a country If you just were diligent and you worked hard, you could actually make something of yourself. You were limited just by yourself.

Chris, in your book you teach these principles here that Z was just speaking of.

You write in your book that millionaires take responsibility. What does that mean and how is that different than how most people process life by default? Well, I think, you know, it’s it’s in our society now, it’s really easy and it’s almost become custom to to blame someone else, to have this victim thinking or this mentality where I’m going to blame somebody because I don’t have something or scarcity mentality that it’s not available to me if someone else has it. And I think we have to be very, very careful. That mindset will limit you and prevent you from reaching your potential. And so personal responsibility means that, hey, if you did something and it went well, great job.

Millionaires will own that. If they did something and it didn’t work or it didn’t go well, they’re not looking to blame anybody.

They own that as well. And I just think it serves to the mindset of these people and the fabric of what they’re made of and how they’re designed.

Chris, in your book, you write that millionaires are consistent. What do you mean by consistent? And how is that different, again, by how the average person lives by default? Well, most people, I think, are inconsistent by nature, meaning we’ll start something, but we may not follow through with it. And I think the focus people, people that are very intentional with what they’re doing and the results that they want, are, on the other hand, extremely consistent, meaning people that they’re investing month after month, they’re looking consistently at their money, they’re understanding where they are, and they’re striving to improve themselves, but also their situation around them.

And I think it just goes to show, one of the stats that I absolutely loved was 98 % of the millionaires that I talked to, 98%, which is virtually all of them, said this, that they feel that they control their own destiny.

which means that they are understanding that, hey, if they’re going to make something happen, they believe in themselves and they’re giving it their all. And I think it just goes to show that these are people that have a mindset of striving, not being a victim. What would you say to somebody who has a worldview that is that they need things through entropy just to work in their favor?

They’re looking for serendipity to take them to success.

They need a third party to arrive with a sort of a handout or some sort of mystical connection. What would you say to somebody who has that kind of thinking? I would just tell them to please wake up quickly. because luck doesn’t exist. We’ve heard this phrase that luck favors the prepared. We all, listen, here’s the reality.

We all have different start points. Some people have more advantages than others, but we’re all in the same race and we have to choose to run this race or choose to sit back and not run. We get that choice. I talk about it. I said, listen, I remember in grade school when I was younger, Mama Hogan, she had to sign a permission slip in order for me to go on a field trip. I couldn’t leave the school if she didn’t sign it.

But here’s the thing that I realize now, as grown adults, for all of us, none of us need a permission slip to chase down our dreams.

None of us need a permission slip to be able to be able to attack debt and build wealth. We’re adults, we get to sign it ourselves. Chris, is this something you can grab somebody and shake them really hard and say it maybe loud enough or with your really cool, cool voice? change mindsets.

I mean, how do we change mindsets out there with all, I mean, like Clay said, the percentages of even baby boomers, which shocks me, and the percentage of millennials, which didn’t shock me that much, thinking that all millionaires inherited. How do we change someone’s mindset? I think the best way to change your mindset is to have the conversation. That’s why I’m around doing speaking events all around the country and doing media hits. I want people to hear the truth.

And unfortunately, a lie can believe that people tell it long enough, loud enough. So I want people to see the truth and hear it, but I also want them to experience it and see it. For the people out there that are building wealth over time, I want to encourage them to talk to these young people, talk to the not so young people, let them know that it’s possible. In my office, we have people of all different faiths and skin colors, and we’re all working together towards a common goal. I think a lot of people, when they Google you and they see a successful African American, they’re going to have a certain, you know, certain people think, man, if I’m an African American, maybe it’s harder for me. Or certain people think, oh, it must be easier for you.

Or what are your thoughts on race as it relates to success? Does it factor in at all? Do you care?

Does it factor into your mindset? Or what would you say to the people out there that are but not white? Yeah, well, I would say this. I mean, you know, regardless, as I said, we all have different start points and we all have different advantages and disadvantages, but we get to all run the same race. And, you know, as I look at this and as I talk to people all across the country, one of the things I’m trying to emphasize is I need people to look inside internally at themselves. I’m not worried about people’s opinions.

Opinions are like yesterday’s. I’m worried about what you believe what’s possible for you. And I think that’s the thing, that internal thing is very, very important. I’ve had disadvantages from growing up. I come from a single parent home in rural Kentucky, but I decided to chase it. dreams and I had some great people around me along the way.

And so I want people to hear me and say, listen, if I can do it, I know you can. It’s that simple. You just have to believe that it’s possible for you and then you have to decide.

And once you believe and you make a decision, then you have to take the right action.

And then ultimately you can’t blame anybody else but yourself if you don’t do it.

Millionaires are hard workers, you wrote in your book. Chris, define what you mean by a hard worker. Hard workers are these are people that they are extremely focused on doing their job but also doing it with diligence. They’re not showing up just punching a clock and watching time fade. They’re actually engaged in their jobs. Sixty four percent of these millionaires that I talked to described that they loved their career.

And I thought that that’s a strong statement to be involved in something that you care about.

That means you care about not only the results but you care about the company that you represent and also the people that you serve. And so this this aspect of hard work is being present, being 100 % engaged and doing the best job that you can.

Chris, real quickly, did you keep the narrative on or the data on the 10 ,000 millionaires that you did, that you researched? How many of them were self -employed or entrepreneurs?

Oh, great question.

We were hovering right at about 12%.

Really?

Okay.

Yes. 12 %? Yes. So you’re saying there’s 88 % of the people you surveyed who are millionaires that don’t own their own business? That is absolutely correct. And they were, so that means they’re working for someone else.

Here’s the thing that blew me away as well. A third of all the millionaires that we talked to, a third of them never had a six figure household income, a third of them. That meant if two people were working combined, they didn’t make six figures, yet they were able to build wealth consistently over time. And so I want people to hear that stat and it’s mind boggling, but you think about it and you go, wait, hold on. Yeah, you don’t have to have a large family. income to be able to build wealth.

What you do need is a plan for the money that you are making. You do need to get yourself out of debt. You do need to be intentional with saving. The number one wealth building tool these millionaires use was our standard 401k, a company sponsored retirement plan.

401ks, 403bs and IRAs. So these are the same tools we all have access to. So we don’t have an excuse on why we’re not doing it, we have the ability and the tools to do it. Let’s say that you were in front of an audience right now, because I know you do a lot of speaking events. Let’s say you were in front of an audience right now of, picture in your mind, maybe three or four hundred people.

and they’re saying, what do I need to do right now? You know, they all have jobs, they have a consistent income coming in. What do they need to do if this audience of filled with people who are around 30 years old, if they want to retire well, if they want to finish well financially, what do they need to do? I think there are three things that they would need to do. Number one, they would need to believe that it’s possible for them to do it. I think this is really, really important because we all come from different families, different backgrounds, and a family’s belief system can become our own.

But we have to decide for ourself and believe what’s possible. Second thing is, is they need to grow in their knowledge, understanding how this money stuff works, understanding the importance of investing, the importance and the threat of debt, not only to now, but to your future. And then third, we got to to take the right actions. That means starting to budget, starting to be intentional with our investing, be intentional with our savings.

And I think those three things are the game changer. So believe, grow in knowledge, and then take the right actions. Those three things will put you on the pace to becoming an everyday millionaire.

You come across as a beautiful man and a guy with a great voice.

You probably could be a voice actor if this whole speaking, writing thing doesn’t continue to work out for you.

How do you organize the first four hours

of a typical day? I mean, what does it do? If you wake up, what time are you waking up and what are you doing during those first four hours? Yeah, typically I’m getting up around 545 unless I have a media hit that requires me to get up a whole lot earlier. But I get up at breakfast. I start to begin to look at my day and prioritize.

I start my day off writing thank you notes, starting off with the attitude of gratitude. It’s a game changer. And that’s where I’m recognizing people on my team, people in the community where I’ve done a speaking engagement.

I just think starting off writing someone a note of gratitude is a great way to start the day. Then from there, I’m in various meetings.

whether it’s on projects or for my radio show or for TV hits that I’m doing later in the day. We’re joined here today as well here with Zach O’Malley Greenberg from Forbes fame here.

Zach, how are you, sir? All right. Thanks for having me on. Hey, Zach, you’ve been in the room with most recently Kanye West.

You’ve sat down with Kanye, did an interview with him.

You’ve sat down with Ashton Kutcher, Justin Bieber, these people that we know them for their success, but we maybe don’t know them for their work ethic. How would you describe the work ethic of a Katy Perry, of a Kanye West, of an Ashton Kutcher? What does that look like? is going to work harder than Kanye West. He is always working.

And in fact, you might not see it because it looks fun to be creating stuff, to be creating beautiful things, whether they’re songs or sneakers or what have you.

But he gets up and he’s thinking about creating stuff, and he goes to bed and he’s thinking about creating stuff.

And it’s happening at 4 in the morning, and it’s happening at 4 in the afternoon. He gets these squalls of creativity, which can evolve into hurricanes of an idea, of a product, of an album, and that’s just how he functions. Chris, do you, when you’re working with Dave Ramsey, you’re working with him on a daily basis or around him, what’s it like working with Super Dave? Oh, Dave is a great guy. He’s extremely passionate. We are focused on serving people that aren’t here, which means we understand that we exist to be able to help others.

And so we are constantly looking, constantly evolving, looking at things, trying to figure out how to make them better. How do we reach more people? And so he’s running 150 miles an hour still after all of these years.

We find that a lot of successful entrepreneurs that we interview on this show have superpowers that some might consider idiosyncrasies. Chris, do you have like an idiosyncrasy or something kind of weird, but it’s kind of your superpower, you know, something that you do. I mean, walk us through maybe some of your idiosyncrasies that you’re comfortable with sharing with the Thrive Nation. Oh, absolutely. I think it’s one of those, I care about people. And I have this intuitive nature of understanding when someone’s got something going on in life and being able to connect with them and share with them and just be there to listen.

I think another superpower I would call is follow up. If someone is going through something good or bad, I am intentional in checking in on them, talking with them and making sure they understand that I’m for them as a person, not necessarily them as an employee or as a teammate.

And I think that that’s something that I learned from my grandmother. My grandmother was an amazing woman who would spend time with people and she really cared about them. So I’m grateful to have learned or earned that skill as well. Well, Chris, those aren’t weird at all. Those are actually kind of cool. Those are we’ve Chris, I’ve got to ask you this here.

He’s a guy coming into some money here, Chris. So he’s going to ask you some tough questions here, I’m sure. So let’s see if he can stump you. I actually got a little bit of a two -part question here just to make it just crazy and silly. So what simple, tangible thing for someone to begin investing or to begin planning for retirement? What would be the most simplistic thing you would do there to get somebody started on that path of that discipline or consistency?

And then the second would be, I was reading over your five simple habits of the average millionaire. So all those things seem really simplistic. So how do you hammer these things home, Chris, on the simple investing for retirement and then the habits? Very good. I think, you know, to the first part and as far as kind of the how do you begin that consistency? I always start people off with their dream.

Like I want them to tell me about what’s the thing you want to do if money didn’t matter. Like what’s the thing that you would just love to do? And people tend to tell me a myriad of things. They want to travel. They want to do stuff for family. They want to do mission trips.

I mean, they want to do all these things. And you see people start to light up. And I said, OK, that’s your why that why that thing right there that you got excited talking about. That’s the thing that you’re striving for. Now what I want us to do is lay out a path, and there’s a path that leads you to that. There’s a path that leads you near it, and there’s a path that leads you from it.

And I begin to kind of systematically help people understand that. From an investing standpoint, I talk about the stock market a lot like the supermarket. Like you can go in a supermarket, and there are things that you can get in there that are good for you. There are things you can get that aren’t so good, right? Well, just like the stock market’s the same way. There are things that you can invest in in the stock market that are good for your financial future.

future that are things that are not so good for your financial future. So I kind of start with that baseline. But going back to kind of the characteristics that I talk about I think it’s more of a being able to see those. So we can kind of look inside ourselves and ask ourselves are we being hard workers. Are we being consistent. Are we taking personal responsibility and being intentional with how we

use our resources that we have now.

So I think these are all characteristics we can start to do. We can decide to do. But I think more importantly we have to continue to do over time. Zach, you with Forbes, I mean, you were interviewing some of the world’s wealthiest people on a consistent basis. Have you noticed that, are they all intentional about their net worth? Have you seen this?

I know it’s kind of a broad brush question, but I mean, do these people, are they aware of their net worth?

Do they care about it? Do you sense that they, like a Jay -Z, does he know his net worth? Does a Dre, does a Diddy, do these guys know how much they’re worth? Well, you know, I think a lot of them, they may not know whether they’re worth $700 ,000 21 million or 748 million, you know, they have a general ballpark idea. But you know, when you’re when you’re putting together an estimate of somebody’s net worth, it’s not just like, there’s a stock ticker that moves up and down. And it’s like, Oh, we’re up, you know, we’re up like $3 million today, because most of them, most of the the moguls I deal with have a lot of interest in private companies.

So, you know, it’s kind of comes out of how do you do? How do you value that company? It’s a little trickier. But you know, I think they don’t I don’t, you know, they probably didn’t get into it to get rich.

They got into it because they had an idea that they really cared about and believed in. And they’re interested in being rich as well, you know, both.

And it’s kind of how do you marry those two sides of it? As Chris said earlier, it’s like they love what they do, so they’re good at it. And then they also care about the money, too, for sure. And I think that when people are doing it just for the money, you know, it comes off as inauthentic.

And, you know, Jay -Z is somebody who’s always done a really great job of being kind of open about it, like, hey, you know, I want to build this company.

I want to control my own financial destiny.

This is my 20th year hosting workshops. So I’m telling you folks, we’re in rare form here. So one is the idea of establishing your revenue goals. I think most entrepreneurs don’t know their revenue goals. Would you agree or am I off my rocker? No, that’s totally a very important point we do with every one of our new clients that come on board is we have to establish the revenue goals.

And generally speaking, we have a vague idea, but not an exact idea that can be engineered down into like the daily goals for sales. And so that’s a really big one. break even numbers. What kind of sales do you have to do to even break even? Third is how many hours per week do you want to work? What is your ideal schedule as an entrepreneur?

Box number four, how do you stand out in the clutter of commerce? What makes your company unique from all the different businesses? In a world of brown cows, herds of brown cows, proverbial brown cows, the analogy of brown cows, how can you be the purple cow that stands out? How can you be the squeaky wheel that gets the oil? Box number five, branding. How do you improve the perception that people have of you, your business, your brand.

Box number six. Marketing, your three -legged marketing stool. What is a turnkey way for you and your company to generate leads so you can succeed? Because if you don’t have any leads, your business will bleed. If you can’t sell, your business will go to hell. You’ve got to generate leads.

Sean, how often do business owners, by default, tell you they have a hard time generating leads? It’s almost all of the time. It’s really a huge struggle. And many times, they may be creating leads, but just through word of mouth. So they get to a point where we’ve implemented systems, and then they need to create more. But they’ve never had to do it.

So there’s a lot of different scenarios where business owners are like, how do you create leads? Something we hammer on at the conference a lot. Box number seven, create a sales conversion system. Again, box number seven. number seven, create a sales conversion system. Sales scripts, recorded calls, one sheets, pre -written emails, lead trackers, all of the sales tools, the sales print pieces, the one sheets, the big screens that you see inside the business, whether you’re a doctor, you’re a dentist, you’re a lawyer, you gotta have sales systems in place.

We help you with that. Box number eight. What does it cost you to get another customer? Step number eight, what does it cost you to actually acquire a customer? Step number nine, it’s hard to build organization if you’re not organized. We’re going to teach you how to create repeatable systems.

processes, file organization. Box number 10, we’re going to teach you how to manage people, real people on the planet Earth. This just in, we’re going to teach you how to manage real people on the planet Earth. Box number 11, how to create a sustainable schedule that works for you and your family. Step number 12, how to create human resources systems for recruiting, hiring, training, and retaining great people. Box number 13, accounting.

This just in, we have to cover accounting. It’s not how much you make, it’s how much you keep. We’re going to cover all the accounting things you need to know. Clay Clarke is here somewhere. Where’s my buddy Clay? Clay’s the greatest. I met his goats today. I met his dogs. I met his chickens.

I saw his compound.

He’s like the greatest guy. I ran from his goats, his chickens, his dogs. So this guy’s like the greatest marketer you’ve ever seen, right? His entire life, Clay Clarke, his entire life is marketing. Luke Erickson here with the Thrive Time Show. As you can see behind me, we’ve got all kinds of energy going on.

People are starting to show up for the conference and it is hot in this place.

We’ve got grill guns over here. We’ve got people playing the drums. We’ve got a fire. And man, people are excited as they come in. My name is Kevin Thomas and the name of our company is MultiClean. We are a commercial janitorial service and we serve the entire state of Oklahoma and Kansas and soon to be Arkansas.

We have probably grown probably five times.

We’ve added, I think when we first started, with you, we had 60 to 65 employees, and now we have a little over 300 employees. Before we got involved with Thrive Time, we didn’t really have any systems or processes in place. In six, seven years, I’ve probably been to 12 to 13 business conferences, and Amazingly, each time I go, I learn something new and I’m so excited to bring it back and show the team. 4 ,000 % from February to February. Now I can better that.

Okay, Clay, I don’t think you know this. I don’t think you know this. I’m pinching myself and if I cry, forgive me. In the last two and a half days, we have bettered our entire month of February. in the last two and a half days. I heard about it on the podcast, started listening to the podcast, became a fan and then figured out about the workshop.

I own an insurance and financial services agency, and I was hoping to learn from the workshop systems and processes. I’m big on systems and processes and always learning better ways to run a business more efficiently. The atmosphere is second to none. none.

It’s a high energy, really cool atmosphere to be around. Contagious, I would say. Just something every entrepreneur, I think, would appreciate and love. I’d say humorous, high energy, and full of substance, which I think is the key. A lot of business coaches or seminars maybe are high on motivation and making you feel good, but don’t have a lot of substance that you can take back and implement the following Monday. where his does Man, there’s a lot of valuable things.

I’m gonna say like I came to this is my second workshop the first workshop I took back really the the importance of a group interview. I used to spend hours and hours interviewing people, screening resumes, and that saving my time on that part is valuable. It was that and then the sales scripting that have been two major things just so far.

Man, I think they’re missing out on expert advice from somebody who’s been there, done that, built companies, has learned a lot of lessons, You know, that’s what I’m always looking for is somebody that I can learn from that’s ahead of where I am. And I think if you choose not to come, you’re missing out on a lot of good advice that could help your business. Hi, this is Charles and Amber Kola. We’re the owners of Kola Fitness. We heard about Clay Clark through Paul Hood, our CPA. We’ve worked with Clay Clark for the last two years.

Clay Clark has helped us take our three locations in three different states and create checklists, workflows, task lists, time blocks for every employee. He’s helped us with creating systems and audits for every department, quantitative scorecards for each department and every position so that everybody has a number.

And even like emotionally, like when we’re stressed about something, you’ll have a story to relate to. And it really helps us in every area of our business. It’s been very, very helpful. I think Clay’s ability to have a whole team behind him that helped him with all of his clients, all his coaching clients, is that it allows Clay to do what he’s really good at and that’s working one -on -one with the client and coaching them and then he can have his amazing staff come in and help you accomplish all these goals that you’re setting. And of course he has all these resources, whether it’s videographers or whether it’s web developers, that they can quickly jump on your project, knock things out.

He can quickly give you the right coaching. He’s just got a whole team of people that whatever area you’re lacking in, in your own company, he’s got resources from like video, web design, search engine guys who are just knowledgeable in that. Even though he knows a lot of that stuff, He’s got these capable lieutenants that are ready to just take off and help you get that stuff done. More stuff gets done on a weekly basis than you would on like probably most individual or some other company. We’ve worked with several companies before. It’s just not as many things get done on a weekly basis.

It’s been very helpful. Well, the conferences for me, I’m a slow learner.

So I have to learn like over and over again, hear things over and over again. I’ve been to like, I think, eight different conferences. And each time you come, I learn a few new components. Some things are repetitive, but a lot of the stuff just resettles and I get a lot bit more depth into each component.

So, I mean, I’ve been to eight of them. They’re all super entertaining. He’s very funny, very encouraging. You get to kind of self -reflect a lot and a lot of the stuff is really polarizing. You do a personal inventory of yourself and you’ll think like, hey, I’ve really got to work on this, really got to work on that. So every time you come, I still get a lot of value out of it.

And as much as every conference is the same in It’s totally different. So I think we’ll hear stories we haven’t heard before. He’ll have entertainment or he’ll have speakers he didn’t have before. And you, like you said, you just always catch a different part of the material that maybe you didn’t catch before. It’s worded differently. And it’s really cool because some people that you’ve seen like a year ago at a conference, now they’re, you know, being showcased as a success story and you get to see their website, you get to see how their stats and all their metrics have improved and the revenue improved.

So it’s really cool to see people that just a year ago, that of course we’ve been here two years, that just came, that I met, is now being successful. It’s really encouraging to see other people accomplish that stuff. Clay has helped us optimize our website and helped with really topping the right search engines that we need to make sure that we are very, very competitive with all of our other competitors. Basically, he outlines exactly what you need to be accomplishing and he creates tasks that we have to accomplish and his team has to accomplish. I would say over the last two years, We’ve totally ramped our website. We’re topping Google in every one of our markets.

We’re just doing, I would say, just doing really, really good. I feel very, very confident in all of our future locations and making sure that we’re in front of the ideal and likely buyer. It’s very encouraging.

It’s important to me to know when I’m working with Clay, you know, I’ve been in business for a while and met with him even when I already had three

businesses in three different states and to know that what I share with him is staying private he’s not sending that out to anybody else to know that I’m all when he’s working with me he’s only working with one other no other gyms that are a direct competition with me it’s very encouraging to have something you can trust and rely on that he isn’t going to like somehow tell your trade secrets or give information away. Just really awesome that he’s a trustworthy guy, really cares about you as a client. For us, it’s been a complete mind freedom, because Clay has helped us create a lot of different documents and one sheets for every department, put quantitative scorecards to each department. And so for us, it’s been very encouraging. It gives us peace. As an entrepreneur, it’s stressful.

You go to bed at night, you’re worried, like, did we cover this? Did we cover that? So he helps extract everything out of your brain, everything from your business, put it into document creation, put it into checklists and workflows for every person in each department, and make sure that everything’s getting done every week, every month, and funnel that all into KPIs, or Key Performance Indicators, as you can see, on a weekly basis, to make sure you’re moving the needle in the right area of your company. It’s very encouraging, and it gives you a complete mind, freedom, and peace to know that that stuff’s created, so you’re easy to duplicate and scale your company. Right, and then we can spend time doing what we’re really good at and just trust the system. I honestly believe everybody needs a coach.

I think we’re all inherently lazy, selfish, and carnal. I truly believe that humans are humans. If we’re standing, we’d rather sit. If we’re sitting, we’d rather lay down. And if we’re laying down, we’d rather be asleep. So to have somebody that challenges you, have real active candor, and be honest with you on every aspect of your company really, really encouraging to me because I want to know, I want to work on what we’re weak at, I want to see any areas that we’re not doing well.

in and see his perspective from a third party, because you can look at your own business and just see the good. It’s good to have somebody who does it, who’s done this with hundreds of companies. You know, really look at your company, reflect on your company and see like little chinks in the armor to make sure you cover that up so your competition can’t get to you and that you that you’re successful overall in the big picture. So, yes, I would recommend Clay Clark because he is a great friend, great encourager to me. He’s been a wonderful friend. He’s also you can tell he cares.

And he also, he has this wealth of knowledge. He’s worked with so many different companies and different businesses. He could take a concept that he’s used before in the past with somebody in a totally different industry and see how it would work perfectly for you in whatever niche market you’re in or whatever type of service you’re providing. And so his brain is just a wealth of knowledge. And just to have that type of perspective as a part of your team and your own company is huge, super valuable. So I would definitely encourage people to use him.

But one thing is you’ve got to be coachable. You’ve got to be wanting to get feedback. You’ve got to be wanting to really grow your company. You’ve got to want to put that extra 10 hours a week to working on your business and not just in your business. And so, yes, I would recommend it to anybody who’s wanting to grow their company and provide great systems, checklists, workflows, great encouragement, and have accountability. Great job he had been doing for them. actually noticed he was driving a Lamborghini all of a sudden so was willing to listen. In my career I’ve sold a little over 800 million dollars in real estate. So honestly I thought I kind of knew everything about marketing and homes and then I met Clay and my perception of what I knew and what I could do definitely changed. After doing $800 million in sales over a 15 -year career, I really thought I knew what I was doing.

I’ve been managing a large team of salespeople for the last 10 years here with Shaw Homes. And, I mean, we’ve been a company that’s been in business for 35 years. become one of the largest builders in the Tulsa area, and that was without Clay. So when I came to know Clay, I really thought, man, there’s not much more I need to know, but I’m willing to listen. The interesting thing is our internet leads from our website has actually, in a four -month period of time, has gone from somewhere around 10 to 15 leads in a month to 180 internet leads in a month, just from the few things that he’s shown us how to implement that I honestly probably never would have come up with on my own. % increase in our internet leads going from 10 a month to a hundred and eighty a month. That would have been a huge financial decision to just decide not to give it a shot. I don’t need additional outside help in many ways. I mean, I went to medical school. I can figure this out. But it was a very, very steep learning curve.

Within the first six months of opening my clinic, I had a $63 ,000 embezzlement. I lost multiple employees.

I am 24 years old, and I own Black River Falls Cleaning Services. We opened in April of 2019, and it is now mid -June of 2020. So I wanted to talk today about the success and growth I have achieved by implementing the Proven Path with Clay Clark’s team and my business coach, Luke, from Thrive Time. It has been insane, to say the least. I started working with them in mid -February of this year, so we’re about four months in of working together, and it has Completely transformed my business in pretty much every facet So I check my notes here So in four months my leads have tripled I was getting probably like two leads a week now. I’m getting more in the like 10 to 15 leads a week I have doubled my number of employees I’m now hitting the highest revenue weeks in the history of the company week to week it seems like We went from about six appointments today as our highest in February to now 14 to 15 appointments a day.

Hiring quality employees has become much simpler and less stressful by using their systems for hiring. I typically only get maybe two complaints a month, if that, and everybody shows up to work. Luke’s like a stern father figure, but he’s also nice, but also stern when he needs to be when I’m being lazy and not doing the things that I know I need to do because I don’t want to do them. So that’s just great. Worth every penny. I mean, I’d pay him a million dollars a month if I can, and maybe someday I’ll be able to, but I would just say go for it.

If it seems like a good fit, just go for it. Do what they say, even if you think it’s stupid or ridiculous, just do what they say because it’ll work. You know, people, when they look at my business, you know, people in my town, they think I’m lucky. They think I’m just, you know, things just happen for me. And, you know, maybe I am lucky, but it has a lot to do with hard work and, you know, perseverance and, you know, working until you cry sometimes. That’s just being an entrepreneur, which if you’re a business owner, you understand that.

But it’s having these systems in place of, you know, of course I’m going to be successful. It’s an absolute because I have all this stuff in the background happening.

And I have Luke and Clay and everybody on their team working really hard to make sure that I’m a success.

And I can tell that they are just so excited every single week when I’m having all these wins and things like that. They’re so excited for me. So it’s the best thing ever. And I would suggest to anybody to work with them. So sorry for the long -winded reply, but I just had so much to say, and I could go on for hours probably about how amazing they are. But thank you to Clay and Luke and the entire team there, everything you guys have done for me.

And I am so excited to continue to work with you for years to come. Thanks so much for watching. My saying is, if it’s important to you, hire a coach. And I think that’s one of the reasons people are not successful is they eat a cheeseburger instead of hiring a coach. You know what I mean? And so my coach pushes me.

They’re younger than me. They push harder. They’re trained. And as my rich dad always said, amateurs don’t have a coach, but professionals always have coaches. So I’ve always had coaches for whatever was important. My rich dad was one of those persons.

I wanted to learn how to play Monopoly in real life. So he was my coach.
