Law 33: Discover each man’s thumbscrew.

FACT: The thumbscrew is a torture instrument which was first used in medieval Europe. It is a simple vice, sometimes with protruding studs on the interior surfaces. Victims’ thumbs, fingers, or toes were placed in the vice and slowly crushed. The thumbscrew was also applied to crush prisoners’ big toes.

However, the book is distilling the 48 laws of power, not the 48 ethical laws of power. It’s not saying here are the 48 moves. You should do that are great. Is it interesting? These are moves that people are using all the time to gain power in the world of business in the, game of life. You know I just woke up give me example. This next law 33 is discover each man’s thumb screw now, I’m screwed. What, when you say, thumb screw? What does that mean it? What what is a thumb screw jump? How would you describe what a thumbscrew is? A thumbscrew is where the method of interrogation of torture-you might say, where your hand is connected to something that is a holding it in place and they can tighten a screw down onto your finger or your thumbnail or whatever it is, and it sounds really really extreme excruciating. How do you? How do you know this to? How did you know this information in the medieval studies here, I mean I did just listen to a nine-hour history podcast of all the torture methods throughout history yeah. What did you listen to hardcore, history, podcast yeah I realize that my life is really awesome whenever I realize how horrible people for, like the vast majority of the past, so I’d like to learn about that stuff and keeps me kind of present torture. Related questions always have been so I am not good at a lot of areas. In my life I’m, very good at business. Okay, there’s example, I went to this is about what probably 7/8 years ago, I was work with a business in town and my wife and I are acquired the majority ownership of the business.

So we’re running the company and I discovered there was a member of the business coaching program team use, a delivery driver and what he kept doing. Is he kept trying to make the office manager look dumb? You know so my wife and I were running the new business and I noticed that he would go out of his way to make sure that she looked up so in meetings. He would ask her questions like hey. What voices do we have last tuesday and thinks there’s no way she wouldn’t have phone numbers to joke i, just freaking disappointing. Just just you never know what you have constantly do that stuff and I eat always ask her to stand up in the group and make kind of bigger announcements, and he cuz. He knew that she was embarrassed about public speaking and that she was basically somebody who made more money than him, but she was accurate with bookkeeping. So we constantly made her stand up in a minute three times. I watched him do it. He never stand up in a kind of a group setting and present things that she knew nothing about and he’s. Okay, I guess it’s someone else see something in you. I watched him do that kind of stuff. It’s not you know when they were, they were going on. I wasn’t a part of it. We just take care of the company. I didn’t want to get in the flow, yet I wanted to just establish who I was and let it going to run as I work my way through improving the systems and pretty sure it was intentional, and we had to call him out on it and make it make him stop doing it, and so is a way, though, to use this law for good and so chuck. So just if I wanted to so was trying to manipulate me. They would do it and I work somewhere. They were just assigned me a lot of manual tasks to do and I would show my incompetence in that area right, but I see a lot of business owners unintentionally, showing the incompetence of their employees by promoting them to a level of incompetence or a signing them tasks that they don’t have. The skill needed to do right just because they’re awesome at one or two different areas doesn’t mean they can do everything within your business and a lot of people say they promote their top sales guy and they make him a sales manager and he’s not good at managing, and that’s just false narrative exist that will you can’t manage your sales team unless you’re really good at sales yourself, sometimes the best that’s enought, sometimes most times the best sales guy in your company is usually worse than anybody else at management, and it’s because he wants to get everything done now now now now now what times are going to cut corners to get the deal? And you promote a person like that in the management and the wheels fall off the wagon classical greek philosopher credit, as one of the founders of western philosophy, he says to know, thyself is the beginning of wisdom, so I believe it’s so important that you know your own figurative thumbscrew.

You know what you’re not good at it as much as possible. There’s a lot of women that dress very provocatively. They dress, like a college freshman going out for a halloween party and they dress up all the time and they wonder why people treat them differently and you want to dress the way you want to be addressed right on I would also say you want to dress for the job you want. You may not want business coaching program people to judge you based upon how you dress, but they do and both in both you and i. We don’t mean to do that, but we immediately formulate an opinion. Will everybody immediately formulate an opinion when you meet somebody, and so this is what this is. This is a concept we come back. I would explain to you why I dress the way that I dress, because it’s important that we address the proverbial elephant in the room and why do I currently choose to wear a hoodie, sweatshirt everyday wear a hoodie sweatshirt every single day you are now entering the dojo mojo and the thrive time show kick it. To me, life truly is an epic tale and there are people out there trying to screw you over and do anything needed to become successful, so chapped lips move on to our next. Is the speed of that area within 45 or something 911 right and so I said? Okay, just can you still buy the vehicle? 1/3 short, he assumes that I’m drunk because I am in a hoodie and I’m a bad driver. I get it so I end up ruining i. Wasn’t it was an old old well, but I’m saying is people. He really did I mean I’m, not exaggerating. He called multiple police officers. You know soon, as I hear in the background. Like I look back and there’s like three officers, there, a vehicle place to judge you, and then he went probably when was all said and done. I approved I had insurance and I didn’t get a ticket, and he just said he will sir I appreciate if you could drive me to just kind of that actually happened numerous times, I think what I had suits on. It’s only like to see what was going on you to make sure that you dress for the way you want to be addressed whatever 35 jeff. What is it master? The art of timing timing? So, if you’re late, then what happens? Is it causes you to hurry, so people who watch people hurrying around it makes people under it really bothers people make some wonder like. Why are you behind gosh? What’s going on? Are you not? Did you not prepare?

Are you not discipline? Do you not have your stuff together, I mean what is wrong. Why are you an idiot? What happens is? Is it really it? It raises the tension in the room and she was grown. Our business coaching program I’ve had to explain this to the members of our team before that. Hey, you might want to you, know, type 90 miles an hour and you might want to hustle, but it when you go at a pace that makes people feel like you’re rushing like what’s going on. It really does bother people. So I would just ask you this if you’re, if you’re a speaker and say you’re a motivational speaker or somebody that speaks some capacity professionally. If you do that, and you will rush it really freaks people out when you talk fast, if you heard the phrase she’s a fast talker yeah, that was my achilles heel the longest time to try to get through it, has a leaders I’m trying to get things done and I don’t realize it, but the faster I talk the more it raises the anxiety of myself and other people give you this feeling of I might be getting scammed or something get something over on me. Cuz they’re, just going so fast right. That is not a move. If your listing today-and you are a fast talker perpetually, it doesn’t mean you’re. A bad person just means that people are going to judge you as being less credible unless you can slow down and since we’ve been doing this radio show the last year-and-a-half. That’s been the biggest thing. I try to focus on doing myself is speaking slower because the business coaching program pros do go slow and I and I didn’t mean to rush I just had a lot of content, I wanted to get through, and so that is just a it’s a it’s a skill that you can learn and you can master overtime by angela wants said.
