Despise the Free Lunch (The 48 Laws of Power Broken Down – Laws 39 & 40)

Show Notes

Clay Clark breaks down The 48 Laws of Power #39-40 as observed and documented by best-selling author Robert Greene.

Law 39: Stir up waters to catch fish.

NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “Anger and emotion are strategically counterproductive. You must always stay calm and objective. But if you can make your enemies angry while staying calm yourself, you gain a decided advantage. Put your enemies off-balance: Find the chink in their vanity through which you can rattle them and you hold the strings.” – Robert Greene

Using this move for good:

  1. NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “The [intrinsically] good man produces what is good and honorable and moral out of the good treasure [stored] in his heart; and the [intrinsically] evil man produces what is wicked and depraved out of the evil [in his heart]; for his mouth speaks from the overflow of his heart.” – Luke 6:45
  2. NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “Public hangings are teaching moments. Every company has to do it. A teaching moment is worth a thousand CEO speeches. CEOs can talk and blab each day about culture, but the employees all know who the jerks are. They could name the jerks for you. It’s just cultural. People just don’t want to do it.” – Jack Welch
  3. Stoicism – DEFINITION – “The endurance of pain or hardship without a display of feelings and without complaint.”

Law 40: Despise the free lunch.

NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “What is offered for free is dangerous – it usually involves either a trick or a hidden obligation. What has worth is worth paying for. By paying your own way you stay clear of gratitude, guilt, and deceit. It is also often wise to pay the full price – there are no cutting corners with excellence. Be lavish with your money and keep it circulating, for generosity is a sign and a magnet for power.” – Robert Greene

Beware of people who are intentionally making you feel obligated to buy from them because of they:

NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “Every right implies a responsibility; Every opportunity, an obligation, Every possession, a duty.” – John D. Rockefeller

Use for bad: Beware of People who give you disingenuous false gifts of kindness to make your obligated.

And no back to the thrive time show on talk, radio, 1170, drive, nation, walking back to the business coach conversation, we’re keeping nice in the light today, I do break down the 48 laws of power 48 laws of power I know for those of you who are listening to the previous segment. I had to pretty hard takes there, and so I decided one thing I’m sure you know that everybody listen right now. If you disagree with my previous text, that’s great go to drivetime show.Com click on the podcast button, and there you can find all the show notes and every single statistics I share with you is all cited. Their 49ers were teaching people the 48 laws of power. What the listeners could do, what you that listener can do to be aware of these laws. It’s super important, you’re, aware of these laws and how they are being used against you, because the 48 laws of power by robert greene, is not a business coach book espousing certain morals. It’s not it’s on a book written about who are the virtues strive for it’s more of a book. Talking about here are all of the deceptive ways:people go about making power moves. This is how it goes down. This is how it goes down. So I work tried to help vaccinate you against the 48 laws of power in to help you with your moral compass about the ones that konflict directly with the judeo-christian faith. So what’s the monomer 39 is stirrup waters to catch fish, anger and emotion are strategically counterproductive. You must always stay calm and objective, but if you can make your enemies angry while staying calm yourself, you gain a decided, advantage, your enemies, off-balance find the chicken there vanity through which you can rattle them and you hold the strings.

Okay, alright I would say that a hundred percent agree with this move. I agree with this, because, because what happens is is that you are out there running your business and you have someone in your office who maybe works for you and they’ve been holding on to a a large amount of business coach resentment over time and they began to get more and more irate, more and more frustrated with you and in a moment where you could say something that you can’t take back you shouldn’t I would always recommend you take the 5 second rule, and so anybody in my office who’s ever seen me lose my mind. It’s a very contemplated think it’s very much like I’m, losing my mind right now, because I the person needs to understand that this is not acceptable. I call it a public hanging. Jack, welch, costa public angle, put the notable quotable about jack welch. Look up. Jack welch’s quote on a public hangings. The number one ceo, arguably of american history jack welch, argues for why public hangings are needed sometimes but I’m going to read you a bible verse from luke 6:45. This is luke 6:45 chapter 6, verse, 45, the good man produces what is good and honorable and moral out of the good treasure stored. His heart and evil man produces what is wicked and depraved out of evil for his mouth speaks from the overflow of his heart. So what this means is typically people that are really really hateful will say something out of their heart that they been festering on for a long time and so I would recommend in a situation where you could lose your mind, 99.9% the time I wouldn’t do it and I wish you don’t do it as you remain calm, as your I was told, if you’re telling a business duct above the water, you you appear calm but below the surface.

You’re paddling, your pal nostra paolino’s. Those feet does webbed feet out of the water, your palate repelling, but above the water you look calm, that’s the personality type that wins in business and the other person will typically freak out when your your adversary, the first arguing with you, your attacker, all that person will typically lose their mind, the more that you remain calm.. About, public hangings, public hangings are teaching moments. Every company has to do it. A teaching moment is worth a thousand csco speeches. Ceos can talk and blab each day about culture, but the employees all know who the jerks are. They can name the jerks for you, it’s just cultural people. Just don’t want to do it. Jack, welch, so there’s a way to fire people publicly without freaking out example of somebody sexually harasses another member of my team and a way where they can’t come to work for threat for fear of their life or their safety I’m, going to fire that person to make an example out of them. If somebody in my office steals I’m going to fire them publicly I’m going to make an example out of this person in front of their peers. So that way, everybody who works for the company knows why they’re leaving and if they choose to remain in fellowship with that person, that’s their deal. But that’s what I do? That’s that’s my move. That’s jack, welch’s, move I would advise you to do the same thing, but, as a general rule out, encourage you to remain calm and carry on a stihl mindset which minimizes the business coach downside is. What wins in business is a form of philosophy there, a lot of people i, don’t think they’re super familiar with. Are we the definition of it? Is the endurance against racism? Is the endurance of pain or hardship without the display of feelings and without complaint to take their was going to say you know renown business guru, justin timberlake? Yes, he says sometimes the greatest way to say something is to say nothing at all. I thought that was kind of good ample example. I appreciate general beaver for chiming, in whatever, like wisdom, timberlake.

That is my that really sucks cuz. Might my anthem I think we’re all doing it because I’m nice and put a clay stuck in a glass box right now, he’s from 48 laws of power is what despise the free lunch. Okay, what is offered for free is dangerous. It usually involves either a trick or a he an obligation obligation. What has worth is worth paying for by paying your way out by paying your own way. You stay clear of gratitude, guild or does and deceit. It is also often wise to pay the full price. There is no cutting corners of excellence bee lavish with your money and keep it circulating for generosity is a sign and a magnet for power. So as an example, we have a lot of a show sponsors on this radio show who do trade out of some kind, so they say hey. We would like to advertise on your program because we’ve been hearing from our friends what kind of a return they’re making you know. So you could get a guy like business coach client paul hood, that advertises on are on our radio, show and he’s a friend of mine, but he pays. He pays money right now. Other entrepreneurs, listen, they say:hey I would like to be a sponsor too, and so they eat the email us to info at thrive time show.Com to learn more about advertising and when they do show up, it might have a gap between what they can afford to pay and what it cost. Schrecker reach our listeners. Yes, we do a trade out. It is a trade out, a dollar for dollar trade out. So it said you came in and you were a $3,000 a month, advertiser on the business coach show. Then, if you want to do it to do a trade out, then I shouldn’t be indebted to you as a result of it. So there was a really really shady guy in our life hero mention his name is that a year ago, and he heard that I was doing some renovations on my house. He came to me and said:hey I would love to help. You renovate your house, I’d love to do it and I said great and he says I just do a trade out and I said.

Okay, I would like to know what the amount is before you start and he says I’m all good for a man will just work it out. I can have it in this is this. Is this? Is the kiss of death work something out now? Let’s work something out right now, so what would I said is no now, let’s, let’s actually get a quote before we agree to do a trade out was guy comes back and I kid. You not. He leaves me an invoice and he tells my wife. She can just give him a check for like $12,000 for a project that should cost like $2,000 or $12,000 trade out, and he says we’re going to trade out. I mean a lot of the planning. I wasn’t charging you for that, so it’s normally 12 is. It should be to grant cheese gives me the invoice for 12 and he said now. He just pays six grand of cash. We can do the rest of the trade, so what he was trying to do was to create obligation, guilt whatever, which is why, typically, when I get a gift, I don’t open it for a month or two and i, usually just let it hang out because I want to know the intentions of the gift-giver before I hope. I, do all the time I mean robert got me a patriots jersey about a year ago and i. Just let it sit there. I didn’t look at it or touch it for probably a month, but I know it’s irritating it, but i. Just it’s a rule that I have i, add cereal I’m, very leery of business coach people who are giving gifts at it’s very unnerving. So I would just say:beware of people who give you disingenuous false gifts of kindness to make you feel obligated. John d rockefeller, all the world’s wealthiest man during his lifetime says every right implies a responsibility, every opportunity and obligation every possession of duty. So some people give you a possession, so they can possessed you to do a dude. My name is clay clark.
