Do you have questions? America’s number one business coach has answers. It’s your brought up from Minnesota. Here’s another edition of ask clay. Anything on the thrive time business coach radio show.

Welcome back to another edition of ask us anything, and today’s show is titled, Go Circumcise Yourself. Oh, that’s great. How do you know if you are called to be a great leader? Go circumcise yourself in our culture. A lot of times people get upset with somebody and they say, hey, go and it might not be anatomically correct, but they’re still going to say, go do this yourself by self. For those of you who are believers of the Jews of the Judeo Christian faith. Recently I was wondering reading through the Bible and I was in the chapter of Genesis, true story and I’m reading through it and I got to genesis chapter 17 verses 10 through 14 and it occurred to me, this right here is really what being a leader is all about. So in genesis chapter 17, verses 10 through 14, I’m going to read it to you and do you tell me if you would be cool to be father Abraham.

Father Abraham had signs that tell me if you’d want to be father Abraham, the guy who was the father of many sons. This is what? This is what we read here in genesis 17 till late on. This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you the covenant. You are to keep every male among you shall be circumcised. You are to undergo circumcision. So at this point, God is saying this, this is Mike covered in your music and your descendants after you the covenant. You are to keep every male and that includes you. Abraham, among you shall be circumcised. You are to undergo circumcision and it will be a sign of the covenant. But tweet me at you for generations to come. Every male among you who is eight years old must be circumcised, excluding those board in your household, brought or bought with buddy pro before.

Even those who are not your offspring, whether the in your household or bought with your body, they must be circumcised. My Covenant in your flesh is to be everlasting covenant. Circumcised male who has not circumcised in the flesh will be cut off from his people like you’re about. Ready to cut off your people. He has broken my covenant manager. No, that was plenty. You are Abraham. You’re going. Okay. God. Okay, cool. So I’m the leader. I get to lead the generations. Okay, so step one, what do you want me to do? Circumcised? I mean at this certain point to little cray cray. I’m just saying. I mean, imagine let’s go back into modern times. Okay? Chuck, you and Dr Z or having a business meeting, you’re up there, meet at the Mayo Hotel right there, and he says, chuck, here’s the deal. Here’s the thrives expanding. We’re going to open up a regional office in Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico, and what I need you to do, step one, was to show your loyalty to the show that you are a guy. I want to put my faith in. You’d member. I need you to circumcise yourself out. I mean, I mean not going to happen. Oh No. I mean if you think so you might say, well clay, what does it, what does it mean to truly know circumstances are going to do it. All right? You know, you’re, you’re cutting off the force and so removing the external. Hell Ya, I’m, I’m a non medical reasons. So my father, this show,

I would just like you actively say, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. Sometimes the guard rails, you know when you’re, when you’re your bowling, you carried right over them for kids to push the button to get the guardrails up.

I say this is so. This is a story in the Bible here. A lot of pastors teaching the story. Yeah. Well, I wonder why everybody open up your bibles to turn this [inaudible]. All the men make the same face. Here are the who are these sacrifices or the metaphorical circumcisions that every leader must make? Okay, here we go. Oh, you have to take responsibility for your results. Say you can’t blame anybody else anymore because Winston Churchill was right when he said, the price of greatness is responsibility. Buck, lay him. Anybody else? Buck stops here. You can’t believe it.

You can’t blame anybody else if you own a business, if you’re the starter of the business, if you’re the CEO of the business, the buck stops with you and you have to just own it. The good, the bad, the ugly, all of it. So we want own the good. Hey, sales rep this month, well, circumstances, circumstances, my circumcised that they say, oh, well we got this bad complaint from whatever. You’re like, well that’s bad, but that’s waiting time. Bill

in those times where you’re thinking, okay. Then as an example, I’ll just give you an example that happened to probably four or five months ago. We had one of our teammates at the elephant in the room who was running impossibly late at one of our stores, impossibly huge late, and I walked in and a customer, this was in our South Tulsa location, was looking pretty upset shirt and he didn’t know that I owned the business for a part of it and I said, hey, how’s it going? And he says, oh my gosh, I’ve been waiting here in the lobby for 10 minutes. And I got greeted earlier, but I’ve been waiting for 10 minutes. I got someone’s going over and he was pretty upset. I let them talk it out and I said, you know what sir? It’s a hundred percent my fault that, that, uh, she’s late there and if it’s cool, if it’s okay, I’d like to treat you to a haircut. I did circumcise you circumcise? No, I said, I’d like to slip this.

This isn’t really what I said before, circumcise myself. No, this is why I said, I said, hey, my name is clay Clark at Cla. Why C, L A R K? And if you need to be upset, I, it’s my fault. And he looks at me and punch me right now. He looks at me though and he goes, thanks man. But like once you own the responsibility and you own an issue, when you say to your fault, when you were taking responsibility for it, well you’re doing is you’re, you’re, you’re being a leader. But td Jakes, the New York Times bestselling author and famous televangelists says, promotion equals problems. Which basically means if you want to be father Abraham, you want to be the father of many businesses. You’ve got to circumcise yourself. You Do, you do. There’s no way. There’s no fun way to do it. I haven’t found one yet.

Should I do it with a spoon? Circumcise my son rusty butter knife. Make sure it’s a. it’s a short spin when you use the fiscus says, because the other ones, the off brand don’t quite cut the spending with this. I say do it quick. Great. Don’t, don’t do it with this engine that chuck came up to you tomorrow and said, hey chuck, here’s this happened three days ago. Martial arts, who? True. John and I had been talking and there’s, there’s a rumor of your promotion. You’re going to be promoted to a high level high status and is a way to show your loyalty to the team because he’s tall. You’re going to need now take the blame for anything bad that happens and circumcise yourself. Play down on this table. No, no, you can get this to do it because you can fix whatever. You got to get a here.

I like to lay on the table. Talk to me. Why is that such a hard thing for take? What does this. I such a hard idea to take responsibility because you see a lot of small business owners. We’ve met him who are used to blaming the team. You can’t do that right in. The hard thing is that because you have so many team members under you, you’re going to have people that make maybe poor decisions or decisions that you wouldn’t otherwise have made too much horse. So and so. So you’re, you’re, uh, accumulating all the problems that come along with the promotion. And so if, you know, if you’re in an office or at a different location, you might be across town or in a different city and you’re acquiring all of the problems you’re acquiring all the responsibility from people that you might not have even met.

Right? And so I know that, uh, in a number of different businesses, Dr z clay, you guys have stepped up and taken responsibility for maybe somebody that you didn’t directly hire or maybe you haven’t done a whole lot of stuff. I think that’s a really hard thing is standing up for the brand while maybe the person that is maybe making the problem is not the biggest issue, but the stepping up for the brand in a taking responsibility. I want to flip it and ask you that. Clay, do you think that’s a big problem for people taking that responsibility? I think it’s a culture. And is it just an individual? I don’t like taking the blame for things that aren’t my fault. Naturally. It’s a counterintuitive idea. Um, but um, what I’ve found is it ends all argument when the person to blame is right there. Usually it’s easier for people to blame a big ambiguous company, a third party entities.

The people have to bang on a big business. They love to blame it. But I even noticed this with my son’s, uh, a hockey. This is a funny story. Hockey, my son was playing hockey for one year in a row, um, and I just had a hard time with it because you’re going into, you’re sitting in like a meat locker, you know, your kids flip, your kids are younger, they were playing like a 6:00 AM game or 8:00 PM game and you’re waiting all, there’s is one piece of ice in the whole city if you’re waiting all day for the game to start. And there was a guy just going off at the ref who was on our team. So it was, it was a guy apparent on our team who was just a costing this referee. I mean, attacking him. Personal Z. Have you ever gone to a hockey games before he ever attended hockey? Yeah, sure. You know, like kids like baseball, softball, there’s always one guy just freaking out the rack. Well, I wasn’t a kid gang, but I’ve been a lot of kids sports games. He just tuck your mom, come on, you know, and he’s just going on and on and it’s like the whole game. We’re like the second period of three, so they have little intermission. So I go down there and I’m like, Hey, here’s the deal. I’m, I’m the one who trained the referees.

And the guy said, excuse me. I said, I’m the trainer. I, that’s what I do. And I trained him poorly and I just want you to. And he’s like, are you kidding me? Are you kidding? I’m serious. And Vanessa is looking at me like, are you kidding? Because I’m going down. I’m like, I trained the referees and I also want you to know that’s in. So what, what, what complaints do you have any like, well, gosh, not even paying attention, man. You call these your reps, but I do. I call these my rough. These are my guys. These are my boobs and I’m not kidding dude. Like shut it the entire time. No, Gawker. We went to the spaghetti feed and he discovered that I was my son’s dad and I had been lying to him, but it ended the argument, the argument, and the point is, is that when you jump on the bomb, it ends the conversation.

You’re right. No, you’re right. I sit there looking right at me, just as furious as could be, and I just told him I’m the one who trained them and it was amazing how he just stopped. It’s a little business move. I learned. I don’t endorse lying to fellow fans, but sometimes to stop the yelling, it’s worth it. The jackass three worth it. The thing about it is though, if you own the business, yeah, I’m telling you what, you get all the good that benefits from that business, but you also get all the bad and everybody wants the good good. We want a party, Abraham, but we don’t want to talk about circumcision, circumcision and the hard things that you and that really equates to. Well, not really.

It’s not. It’s a metaphor. Folks don’t. If you’re listening right now and you’re in a truck stop or you’re driving or you’re jogging, it’s not submitted for it.

I’m going to sue them for snow scalpels in the studio already circumcised myself once, but I’ll do it again. That’s what it takes to be a leader. Maybe I could find a five kid comes up for that.

No, no. Think about it is this is that you have to understand when you start a business, because we know Forbes tells us 67 percent of you out there listening around. We’re going to start a business and we want to help you. We want to help you start it and grow it and have much success with it, but understand this, going into it. You get all the good and you get all the bad,

right? You just, it doesn’t. You got to own them both. Now this is a statistic. I think it’s very important that that none of our listeners want to know, but I want to share. Oh, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention on April 22nd 2014. Apparently that’s when you take the big surveys where you do this kind of research. You do that on April second of 2014. Yeah. Yeah. You do not do any more research after you’ve done the onetime survey. You do it one time on April, second, 2014. Then you say, that’s it. We’re not going to update this annually. This is the one time we’re going to do it, but apparently a circumcision rates are declining for us infants and we’re now. We’re now down to 77 percent. Some estimates say to 81 percent of baby boys that are born that are being circumcised with this should concern, and your point is that the point is sometimes you’ve got to bevel your guy if you want to, but come up with a battle here. Guy Aaron bevels. Such greatest hits like rhinestone cowboy. Now the next, the metaphorical circumcision required to lead a company. You’ve got to have self control. Oh, which means you got to be dependable and on time you cannot be the person who’s late to making payments when you’re in charge. You can’t be the person who forgets about demeaning when you’re in charge. You can not be the most vague person possible when you’re in charge. See, it

can’t tell you. And this is an honest statement. I can’t tell you how much favor I’ve received from companies for paying them on time. Pay Them on time. It’s almost like, you know, we’ll be doing a celebration dinner and we did that with a lot of our number one account and got optometry clinic for a lot of our vendors. And so we do a celebration dinner.

Oh, okay.

And, but we’re at dinner and uh, it’s amazing how much they, how many times they’ll say, you know, you’re our largest account, but what’s really wonderful about your counters, it was actually

pay us on time, on time, and then check them circumstances. I don’t know. I don’t normally ask people, will you pay me on time? Makes me feel a certain way. And I just wanna know, do you feel that way? And then of course, bonding fueled it. People love it. It’s A. It’s a big turn on when you pay on time. Yeah,

you should write. Self control is extremely, extremely important in business and I think that’s probably why a Forbes reports this affordances are talking about the Bible earlier in the day. That’s our business. Eighty percent of businesses fail and 90 percent of startups fail and I think a lot of that is lack of self control.

And it could be because of the declining amount of people who are circumcising their newborn baby.

Three out of four

could be little correlation there. You take about the numbers. This number, 67 number, it just all

[inaudible] 76. And you know what that means? I want to say something kind of crazy here. Please do. Great Guy. No, I’m like, we haven’t this where we’re having a lot of fun here and I want to say to any business owner out there, when it comes to self control, if you’ve got some type of abuse issue or substance abuse problem, you need to go get help because your team is going to know it. If you can’t skip out of work for three hours and go do whatever, whatever it is you’re doing, people will get hip to it and I know it’s kind of a weird thing to bring up, but you need to go get help because that is one of the key things to self control. You help me on my finger paintings. Those are good. You need to stay on that. That’s good.

No, you’re correct. The thing is

know you’re probably a risk taker. People that are entrepreneurs, they get out there, they do things and they can fall victim to this stuff, so I just wanted

bring that up. We want. We want to help you and we’ve met a lot of people at workshops that have told us. They said, hey, here’s the deal. The business is growing now beyond me and I’m feeling overwhelmed and I’m feeling stressed and my coping mechanism is not heroin. Right? And so what we would say to you is go circumcise yourself. Good health. Yeah. That’s a good start. Probably both position. All of a sudden you get serious. Okay? Now the next, the next step here, you want to have the habit of doing more than paid for period. You can’t just be the kind of person that does less than is expected. If you want to lead a team, maybe when you worked for a guy who leads a team, you can, but you can’t if you want to stay in charge, getting charged, run something, and so Napoleon Hill, the best selling self, a self help author of all time before the chicken soup for the soul series rights.

When you do only that for which you are paid. There’s nothing out of the ordinary to attract favorable comment about the transaction, but when you willingly do more than for which you are paid, such as circumcise yourself, your action attracts the favorable. No, no giggling guys. Attention was very serious of all who are affected by the transaction and goes another step toward establishing a reputation that will eventually set the law of increase turns. Come on work. Come on on your behalf for this reputation will create a demand for your services far and wide. And this is what I want to make sure you get it. God, as we read about in the Bible

asked, he said, Abraham, will you circumcise yourself and all these other people. Now

I don’t know about how the timeline, the Bible works, but I think this is what happened. I think God first said, Abraham, I want you to sacrifice your first board when he goes, okay, that seems pretty rough. I don’t know. I don’t know. Z. I don’t know. God. I don’t know. Can I talk to my buddies? Zz. God wants me to sacrifice my first son. And then in these. So we talked. It was Abraham. Those one more thing. I need you to circumcise yourself. And I think what happened is I think Abraham looked up and said, God, I’ll kill everybody I know. Just don’t make me circumcise my, my boy. Rather I’d rather kill my boy, my boy or the list of things that I’d like to do today. That’s pretty low on what do you have to really step up to leadership and in the Bible there’s all sorts of unpleasant examples, but I did not know this until just yesterday.

Genesis. I mean, I was reading this and I’m going, no way. I asked my wife, I’m like, did this no way. I’ve asked some people who are biblical scholar, people are going, this is a thing I guess is what happened, and I. I just, I don’t know. I’d say, God, I’m, I’m willing to not be promoted, but you have to be willing to do the habit of doing more than paid for it. Right? You have to do more than is expected. You have to. We have a notable quotable in the men’s restroom written in chalk on the wall by a certain clay. Clark says overdeliver, and you will soon be overpaid. True. I think that Kinda sums up what we’re talking about Marshall and further. One of the key points is it’s a habit of doing more. By the way, I got to check a phone alarm here. Let me get this phone alarm. I guess it’s a reminder. We’re supposed to be on the show right now and that’s awesome.

We’re still on it. Good stuff. Good thing. We’re not creating a habit of doing more than what is expected of you. It’s building a reputation. It’s what you consistently do because if you over deliver one time, one, you only. If you only go above and beyond one time, people associate that with you, but the people that are consistently getting promoted are the people that are building a reputation of excellence. And Warren Buffet, he says that it takes 20 years to build a reputation. Okay, and only five minutes to lose it. Let’s put that on the show notes. Put that, put that on me years to build a reputation, but only five minutes to lose it. So it’s consistently overdelivering. Time and time again. That’s how you win Zhi. You have the final take here. It’s about the final, the final teaching moment as we’re talking about ghost circumcise yourself. How do you know if you’re called to be a leader? Well, here’s the thing, is that a TV,

newspapers, people, we all celebrate the fun stuff, the good stuff. Successes. You know the cribs, the big house, the post to circumcision guy. Oh yeah, come on man. Exactly. Related to postcards to going to drive today. He’s going to drive the poor. Should the or the rover over the Bentley. We celebrate them after the world series win after that because we. We watched the parade and they’re put champagne, popping champagne, kissing babies and kissing babies sign in someone’s head. You know, we said we really love winning. Yes, we love winning and winning good. And we, we preach squinting and we try to help you win, but understand this for every moment that they’re popping champagne, they had multiple more minutes in the gym, working hard, sweating, having the strain of the pain of that. You didn’t know the pulling hill talks about that. He says, he says, every adversity you meet carries with it a seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.

So you’re in the gym lifting weights. Yeah, you’re getting sore. Yes, worn out. But you’re getting worn out. You’re. Yeah, I mean you’re right. And so the point is is that we celebrate the strength. We don’t talk about what it took to get that, and that’s what we’re really talking about. We’re talking about that commitment. Do you want me to be a leader? Being the pig at breakfast and not the chicken? I mean, it’s about. It’s about the commitment. When you start a business was saying, I hope it doesn’t fail. No. Do you want to be a leader? Do you want to? Do you really want? Do you really want this? Because we only want it. If you really want it, you’re going to have to take responsibility for the results. You’re going to have to have self control. You’re going to have to have the habit of doing more than paid for.

You’re going to have to be able to endure and thrive in a world of continuous adversity and you’re going to have to be willing to accept the order from the leader to go circumcise yourself, right? Metaphorically speaking, you have to circumcise yourself as a leader, and a leader is anybody that owns a business, starts a business. You’re. You’re a leader by default, and so you have to understand what you’re signing up for and I think some people, you know, they, they, they look at all the fun and all the benefits. They want time freedom, they want financial freedom, they want everything a business can bring to them, but they don’t understand over here the hard road ahead of them and the challenges that come in, you know, it’s not, it’s not all fun and games. There’s a lot of nurses, a lot of circumcision. Beveling required. Gosh, sometimes you need power tools. And so on that note, we’re going in with a three, two, and here we go. Here we go. Three, two, one.

Both.
