IDGAF | I Don’t Give a Focused Moment to Something That Doesn’t Matter

Show Notes

Are you giving your focus to something that doesn’t matter? Do you find yourself constantly chasing a new idea? Clay Clark breaks down why successful people almost universally do not give their focus to anything that does not relate to the pursuit of their goals for their faith, family, finances, fitness, friendship and fun.

Step 1 – Think about and define your F6 goals daily

NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.” – Jim Rohn

Define your goals for your:

  1. Faith
  2. Family
  3. Finances
  4. Fitness
  5. Friendship
  6. Fun

Step 2 – Schedule the life you want

NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “You either pay now or pay later with just about every decision you make about where and how you spend your time.” – Lee Cockerell

Major Time Wasting Activities:

Social media engagement

Dinner engagements

Burning fire due to somebody’s lack of preparation

Watching TV

Addictions

Gambling

Drugs

Step 3 – Embrace the truth that you must design the life you want or live the life you don’t want by default

NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “Face reality as it is, not as it was or as you wish it to be.” – Jack Welch

NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “Change might not be fast and it isn’t always easy. But with time and effort, almost any habit can be reshaped.” – Charles Duhigg (The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business)

Step 4 – Say “NO” to everything else

NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to 1,000 things.” – Steve Jobs

Check out Ed Sheeran’s Song – You Need Me – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV0TJZ7Kp40&start_radio=1&list=RDDV0TJZ7Kp40

NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “I got rid of my phone as my New Year’s resolution,” Ed told Ellen. “I bought an iPad, and then I just work off of email, and it’s so much less stress. I don’t wake up in the morning and have to answer 50 messages of people asking for stuff. It’s just like, I wake up and have a cup of tea.”

This isn’t the first time Ed has taken a step back from technology. Just over a year ago, he shared a post on Instagram about taking a tech detox. “Hello all. I’m taking a break from my phone, emails and all social media for a while,” he wrote to his followers. “I’ve had such an amazing ride over the last five years but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes so I’m taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed.” – https://www.teenvogue.com/story/ed-sheeran-doesnt-have-cell-phone

Question from a Thriver – Nathan

Could you do a show on what about your business should always be your best-kept secrets AND what about your business should you share with your employees?

I was reading about the last Avengers movie and the actors only got their own scripts and didn’t know what was going to happen in each scene until they shot the scene so they couldn’t leak the story.

I’ve also read about involving your employee’s so they can share in your vision and know what they can do to help the business succeed.

What are the top 5 things to keep secret and what are the top 5 things that help an employee help you move the needle?

Business Coach | Ask Clay & Z Anything

Audio Transcription

Two men, 13 multimillion dollar businesses, eight kids, one business coach radio show. It’s the thrive time business coach radio show with Dr Zellner and Clay Clark.

All right, thrive nation. Welcome back to the thrive time show on your radio, your daily Audio Dojo of Mojo fo sho. Now on today’s show, we’re talking about a subject that’s near and dear to my heart and subject called Idg Gaf. But you might be saying it. Gaf. Really? Are you going to say that? Are you going to entitle your show? It Gaf. Well, for me, it gave me. I don’t know what you think it means for you. For. For me it’s a. it’s a very healthy thing for your sick freak’s. I’m not sure what you think it means, but for me it stands for. I don’t give a focused moment to something that doesn’t matter. I don’t give a focused moment to something that doesn’t matter. What does that mean? Well, Sean, you coach businesses. I’ve been a business coach for year years, and what I found is that a lot of business owners have never taken the time to sit down and to think about there.

F six goals. I feel like a lot of times I talk to people, I say, Hey, what are your goals for the next year for your family, your faith, for your finances, for your fitness, for your friendship, and your fun. Let’s make some goals. I get the feeling that most people have never thought about that concept before. D, when you sit down with a client, you go over their goals for the year. Do you feel like that? A lot of times people have never sat down to think about what their goals are for the next year. Sean, I mean, do you do. Am I alone in feeling that most of my clients have never thought about this?

Yeah. It’s interesting with many of my clients, it’s an evolving conversation. Initially when I asked them what are your goals, we keep it right at the top of the agenda that we talk about every single week and it’s a. It has to be an evolving thing with almost all the clients that I’ve worked with because they haven’t sit down and sat down, excuse me, and thought about all of these different areas, so every week we kind of revisit those things and refine them a little more, get them more into the smart goal format where it’s specific, measurable, actionable, realistic, and timely. Got It. That’s the best idea, but it’s rare that people have actually done that in the beginning.

So as an action item, for all the listeners out there, what I encourage you to do is I wanna encourage you to think right now, Gosh, of paper,

and write down your goals for the following six errands. What? What are your goals

for your faith?

What are your goals for your family? What are your goals for your finances? What are your goals for your fitness? What are your goals for your friendships, and what are your goals?

And I encourage you to do this every single day because if you don’t do it every single day, you’re going to drift. So I’ve already done it for my day today, so I’m going to read off my goals for today. I’m going to grab my clipboard real quick. Give me just one second. I’m over here getting my clipboard. Okay. I’m back. And so let me go ahead and define my goals for this to be a video show. Today’s show will be on the youtube, the thrive time show youtube channel as well, so you can see the video of it, but I’m putting it up there. I’m holding it up for the cameras. The camera can see. That’s my to do list for today and I’m going to go and read off what I’m doing today. So first thing I’m doing today is I’m going to edit the podcast from yesterday.

Why would we have. We had the Dell, Rick’s on the show now. The Dell risks, if you’re not familiar with delvin research, they were a semi startup. We first started coaching them and they now produce a profit of $100,000 per month and they flew in from New Orleans to share their story with folks like you. So they’re on yesterday’s podcast. You’ve got to find the Dell Rick story is called finding Narnia. They found a mystical, magical world where they have time freedom and financial freedom. It’s epic. It’s unbelievable. They make $100,000 of profit per month. And by the way, if you’re out there listening and you want to make $100,000 a month as well, you should look into a dell, rick clinical research. You have to interact with physicians and patients, but you legitimately consistently for sure if you suck, if you’re terrible, if you’re the worst part of your ethical, but you’re the worst possible franchisee ever, you will make $10,000 a month with that business.

I mean, it’s just, it’s awesome. So they’re on the show yesterday. I got to edit that cause there’s a lot of good nuggets there. Um, also I got to go buy new new boom hats. I got to buy two new boom hats over at lids in the mall. Um, I’ve got to go get post up stands for the elephant in the room stores. Um, I need to edit the Carlton Pearson Book. I need to write the content for the elephant, the room, Oklahoma City page. Um, I need to create a path for Steve’s mechanical. I need to come up with book titles because I’m in the process of discussing with a company about becoming. My agencies are my, my agent, my literary agent for, for books. Um, I’ve got to write down and edit an agreement with a client that all has to happen today. Those are all things that I would argue most of those are finance related, right?

Family. We’re going to grill hamburgers tonight. Why? Because it’s on our schedule. So what time do we up? Four o’clock. Really? Yep. Um, finances. We got the family faith. I listened to td jakes this morning because I listen to tjx every morning. So I’m done there. I feel very spiritual. Oh yeah. The next is fitness. I’ll work out tomorrow. Not working out today because tomorrow’s the day I work out. Okay. Then friendships. I’m going to spend time with my wife, who I considered to be my best friend and a fun. I don’t know. The whole thing is fun for me so that there it is. Now, what am I not going to do? Not going to go on social media today. I’m not going to actually answer a phone today at all. So if you’re calling me today, not going to answer the phone because my phone’s off today.

Uh, I’ll be off tomorrow as well. I have a kind of a. every week I turned my phone off. Going from A. I turned it off it, it’s off. It’s off in this way to the business will still answer the phone. As crazy as it sounds. I’m not going to answer the phone. So what if your mother calls, she can call my wife and we can meet for family time. What if your friends call? What if they’re in an accident? They can call Vanessa’s phone, which only my friends know. Well, they can waive. If there’s a facebook cataclysmic event or a big hurricane and you’re just totally unaware of the news, that’s fine. I don’t really care about knowing about the news people all the time. Come in and say, do you know it’s gonna rain tomorrow? Do you know how it’s going to rain? No. Well, how do you even plan for what to wear if you don’t know what it’s going to be?

What the weather’s like. I wear the same thing every day. Um, I, I just, I, these are things I don’t give a focus to moment to anything that doesn’t matter. Sean, you see me during the day. Oh yeah. I have my clipboard. Yup. Am I to do list in my daytimer? Yup. Can you explain what’s going on during the day? Wait, you, you get a chance to observe me throughout the day. You and I are within earshot. You’re within probably, you know, 20 feet of where I office. I office at the bar. I refuse to have a desk, but can you explain kind of what I’m doing throughout the day from your perspective? From my perspective, you are constantly working on one of those line items on that, on that to do list like one to the next. Pam, Pam, Pam, Pam, Pam. Just, you know, occasionally I’ll look over and you’re, you’re using a red marker to mark something out.

That’s about the only time he stopped though. And then typically when I’m. What time do you see me leave during the day? Like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. If you do, you know. Well it depends upon the show. But um, you know, you’ve been leaving earlier these days because you’ve been doing more hours on the show, but between three to five I think on Thursdays. You still later with one client. What time do I get to work? Oh, you’re there for the morning meetings at 6:00 AM. And uh, do you ever see me go out to lunch? I’ve not yet seen you do this. No, I don’t go out to lunch now. Have you noticed that a lot of other people go to lunch? Have you in the office? Yeah, that’s fine. That’s fine. But you, I said I don’t do that. I do, yeah. I noticed that I’m never running around the office going, what am I going to eat today? I rarely see you eat right. I’m just saying is like I don’t give a focused moment. That’s what today’s show. But I don’t. Have you noticed that our elephant in the room, uh, trainings in there on Friday? You noticed that every Friday at 8:00 we have the same meeting. Oh yeah. Why don’t I have it at different times every week? Well, it’s because it’s in the schedule and you have a repeatable weekly schedule.

A. Okay. So our, our coaches meetings, why do we have a coaches meeting with all the business coach every single morning at six. We’ll Mondays at seven. I’m trying to move them all to seven eventually. But why do we meet every single morning with the coaches at 6:00 AM everyday of the week, except for on Monday where it’s at seven because we’re the best coaching program in the world and that requires a lot of training. There’s 160 ish clients that we service and we got a lot of, a lot of burning fires to help them solve and their businesses. That’s where we hack it out every morning. So Jim Rone, Jim Rowan, the best selling author. Have you read any Jim Roan stuff? We heard him speak before there. Sean, I know of Jim Rowan. He is, uh, I, uh, I like Tony Robbins a little bit here, so he’s, uh, he’s his mentor for anybody out there who says, clay, why do you always bang on Tony Robbins?

Okay. Why don’t you always harassing Tony Robbins? This is the deal. Okay. Tony Robbins is an unbelievable motivator. Yes. And I say to you, that’s good. That’s the spark, that’s the spark. But what keeps the flame going as you need logs, lots of logs and you got to spend a lot of time hacking down trees with an ax to get the logs. Yeah. And I would argue that 99 percent of business coach program is the perspiration that occurs after the inspiration has gone. Yeah. And I believe that the people that constantly need to be motivated by an outside force will never be successful because like Andrew Carnegie once wrote, people that cannot motivate themselves must be content with mediocrity. And so I see people that need an outside force to motivate them all the time and they just never work longterm. And so I know a lot of people that love Tony Robbins and I see them being extremely excited and extremely depressed, extremely excited to have.

It’s stressful. It’s just stressful to talk to them. Great. I have this New Vision for that future. You’re going, why are you sending like a pirate and what are you doing reading? And then you’ll see them the next week. How you doing man? We’re just shooting the don’t, shouldn’t have, don’t know what happened. What is possibly, you know. So again, I think it’s about the stoic execution of your daily schedule. Now Jim Roan and Tony Robbins, they’re quoted often. Jim Rone is a source of wisdom for so many, a motivational speaker. And he said this, he said this during his life. He passed away here a few years back. This is what he said. And he says, discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment. He says, discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment. He did not say motivation is the bridge. Thrive nation. I will repeat the Jim Rohn quote at the voice attempting to really sell this one to you. Like my name was the guy who sells the total, told the Typo Tibo guy, or the guy who was so dehydrated, me to

the guy who sold the glue that could help put a parachute together, or the guy who sold the blue blockers and the guy who sold the shake weight, the shake weight. I want to sell that thing like the shake weight. So here we go with thrive nation. I will now read it with the most effort voice I could possibly conjure up here today. It’s Jim Rohn. Once said, discipline is the bridge between go and accomplish. No drive nation. I’m gonna. Try to make it more ethnic. I gotta sound more like it’s a European because in Europe everything’s more ethics. There’s castles. That’s people smoke a lot on higher taxation. Europe, let me try to get discipline is the bridge between go. It was really good.

Thank you. So discipline. Once you build the schedule, you have to stick to it. You got to stick to the schedule. So we come back. We’re talk about scheduling the life you want because it’s great to get up every day, every single day. You have to have one hour of time everyday, every single day to make your goals for today, for today, for today, for your faith, your family, your finances, your fitness, your friendship with your fun everyday, but then you’ve got to put it into the schedule and once you get it into the schedule, now you have to have the discipline needed to actually hold yourself accountable to the schedule. Right? So now if you’re out there and you say, you know, I, I have a goal to save both time and money this year on my office and printer supplies. I have, I have a goal. I want to save money on an office in printer supplies. I’m tired of paying too much and I want to save money. Why would encourage you to check out our good [email protected]? thrive nation. Welcome back to the conversation. It’s the thrive time show on your radio. My name is Clay Clark and today we’re talking about it gath. I don’t give a focused moment to something that doesn’t matter. Why? Why don’t I give a focus to bowman to somebody that doesn’t matter. Okay. Let’s do an example. Yesterday, like I do every day and today I get up, I make my to do list for the day, so I make my goals for my faith, my family, my finances, my fitness, my friendship, and thought this is an example. Things are going good. Yesterday I finished my day. I turned my phone off. I don’t go on facebook ever because I don’t care, but if I did, I’m sure there’s somebody out there trying to message me a sales pitch or somebody complaining about their favorite politician to complain about. They go, well, you know, did you know?

I don’t know if you know this, what? That Barack Obama, he was actually born in Kenya and his wife is actually a dude, you know, or somebody else serious or someone else will say, you do. One of the Donald trump is having an affair. He’s out there. He’s, he’s out there. They don’t even sleep in the same house. It was like he’s married to like a frequent supermodel, but yet he’s not even at his own house. Do you want a guy managing the White House when, uh, he’s like a freaking, you know, he’s out there not even being faithful to his own wife, wife. I mean. And then also like, why is it called the White House? I mean, isn’t that racist overall? I mean, over you think about the White House. I mean, did you know Obama is actually from Kenya? Did you know that Donald trump has hair isn’t even real hair.

It’s like an extension gone bad. Do you and people just argue all the time online? Did you hear about the new Papa John’s thing? You hear about that? Did you hear about the weather? The weather’s terrible. The Papa John’s thinks terrible. Trump. Terrible. Barack Obama. Terrible. Did you know about the currency? It’s all going to be totally manipulated. He in the third term, third quarter, all the signs are there. It’s the end of the world. Are you dehydrating your food because you’re going to run out of food or you auto shipping, you’ll meet because you’re going to run out of meat. Are you dragging? Are you drilling a well, because it’s the end of the freaking world. Do you know that the $15 minimum wage is around the corner, you know, the $15, you know the freaking floating island out there of trash floating around in the ocean and you, you use a Styrofoam Cup.

You frequent a whole. Unbelievable. I mean, I, I find myself erode them. No, no. There’s people that, that’s what the world is all the time. Yeah. But I didn’t do it. I made it. I made. I met goals for my faith. Listen to td jakes. Yesterday morning family, watched a movie with the kids last night. We’re watching a lot of the NFL life. I love that show. It’s great nfl life with the kids at night. Um, finances made more money than I spent a fitness. Worked out with John yesterday at four in the morning. Uh, friendships. I only talked to people that I like. I didn’t talk to anybody I don’t like yesterday because I live in complete seclusion and a fun. I had a great time doing it all. But once you make a schedule for the life you want as an entrepreneur, uh, you know, Sean, you coach businesses. Yeah. And I’m sure none of your clients have ever said this, but I’ve seen this where a business coach client or owner will say, I didn’t get a chance to do the things on my, to do list today. I didn’t get a chance to actually use my. I didn’t adhere to my own schedule today because something came up. There was, there was a fire, there was an emergency, there was a problem. How often do you hear that kind of thing, Sean? We first

worked with clients. That’s something we’ve really helped them do is to lock in a repeatable, scalable lock baby missile. Lot. Lock it in. It’s got to be the same every week. Like your elephant in the room meeting starts at eight. Every Friday, 6:00 AM. We’re having those training meetings with all the business coach team Monday, Thursday.

Why do I start the elephant meeting on time? By the way, why does it start right at eight and not eight? Oh four,

you take 10. You taught me this on a previous podcast, but people hate it when you’re late. So consistency and being on time is huge in terms of people respecting you, your employees actually showing up on time themselves. There’s a whole lot behind that, but it’s not a, it’s a simple concept.

Now, here’s what I have found. This is what I have found is my observation, and I’d like to get your take on this. Sean, if you, uh, see what your thought is it. Let’s keep that camera out on Shaun’s face. Someone, Oh, I want to see the look of stone Shawn’s face when he, he has this observation here. I want you to think about this. I have found that people typically only focus on the urgent burning fire in anything that’s a proactive activity like implementing a search engine strategy or a dream 100 strategy or a group interview or proactive accounting. Anything that’s proactive I find people don’t have time for, but they only have time to survive and do whatever is the burning, pressing fire of the day. I have found there’s no time. Most people have no time for productivity, but just for reactivity. Have you seen this? Have you, have you. Have you noticed this as well?

Yeah, until people get into the habit of viewing their time, the most precious resource, especially if you’re a business owner, your time is the most valuable thing in the whole business and we all have 168 hours in a week, 24 hours in a day. So until you start really viewing it like that, it’s, you just end up in this reactive drifting loop where you don’t, you don’t, you set aside time for things, but you don’t actually do those things when they pop up on the calendar because you’re too busy reacting to things that don’t matter.

Um, I, I really, really want to go deep into that idea because I want to help somebody get out of that cycle, that hypnotic rhythm of just barely getting by. There’s a book out there called the power of habit, which I would encourage all the listeners to at least listen to because he says in that book, this is a good notable quote. He says, change might not be fast and it isn’t always easy, but with time and effort, almost any habit can be reshaped. And I think that’s powerful because I think a lot of people, they have this desire to make the big change, but they’re stuck in that had the habit. The power of habit is like the gravitational pull of the planet. I mean, it’s a powerful force that really does impact people and the way that they live when they weren’t even aware of it. It’s just, it’s his power that it impacts people. And I think people just don’t. We don’t, uh, think about the power of habit. So the power of habit. It’s, I mean, for a clay stairs and your, your company there, the leadership initiative where you work with clay, um, you guys cold call, how many people a day, roughly? Contractors.

Oh yeah. We have three team members and each of us call between 100 and 200 businesses a day.

Do you realize that per day, let’s just say low average, your company’s calling 450 businesses per day. That is more cold calling than most clients that I work with have ever done ever, ever in their entirety of their career. You’re doing more than they have done an entire career every day and once we get a client into the habit of actually doing what you’re doing, massive success happens, but why? Why does that? Why was it so hard to start that habit of making them? How many calls per day and why is it now almost addictive? Now that you’re doing it?

Well, you see the fruits only after you’ve been doing something consistently for a long period. Anything that’s that’s gonna be positive in terms of business is gonna be the result of consistently doing something over and over and over and in terms of at the beginning what was hard about it was just the emotions of it. Consistency. You taught me this consistency, unnerves people, oh, whatever reason, and once he kind of get past that or get over those nerves and do something enough times, you’ll see the fruit of it and then that then is the inspiration to keep doing it.

Now thrive nation. When we come back from the break, I’m going to tell you more about the importance of consistency and short. Sorry to cut you off there, so we just got a little commercial break here. If you’re out there looking for a proactive accountant and I know you are, I would encourage you to check out. cause we’re talking today about it. Gaf, Gaf. Really, you’re going to go to that level. You can use these clever little click bait kind of titles. Make us want to watch a show, listen to a show. Absolutely it. Gaf, I don’t give a focused moment to something that doesn’t matter. I don’t give a focused moment to something that doesn’t matter. What does it mean? What it means is that so many people that I talked to all the time, they tell me, clay, I, uh, um, gosh, I, I have all these goals by just don’t have the time to get it done. Well, Lee Cockerell, the former executive vice president of Walt Disney world resorts who, um, once a managed over 40,000 employees and a million customers a week he wants, wrote in his book time management magic that I helped him on. He says, you either pay now or pay later with just about every decision you make about where and how you spend your time, and I have found that is so true and I found that when you get up every morning and you do your med of time, which you need to do every day, every single day, you get up everyday and you ask yourself,

can you have a sheet of paper? I’m not kidding. Every single day get out a sheet of paper and write down what are my goals today? What are my goals today for my. What are my goals today? What are my goals for today, for my fitness score based linkedin request. No, stop, stop. Put the social media. Now someone’s calling me. Turn the phone off like, Hey,

facebook message. There’s a tweet. Hashtag. There’s an email. Turn that crap off. Man. We just lost focus. You know what were we talking about? Faith. Your goals for your faith, your family, your finances, your fitness, your friendship, and your fun. Now, once you make your goals for those areas,

then you got to put it into your schedule step to put it in the schedule, right? Step three, then you have to embrace the truth that you must design the life you want to live or live the life you don’t want. By default, by default, by default, you will live a life you don’t want. By default. If you don’t do what I just told you, you will live a life you don’t want. Is there another way? Is there an APP? Is there a program? Is there a coaching seminars or something? I know you have to do that. You have to do it. You have to do it. Jack Welch, the CEO of Ge, who grew the company by 4,000 percent during his tenure. He says, face reality as it is not as it was or as you wish it to be. Face reality as it is, as it is, as it is.

So I think about the things that I give a focus to this podcast. Why? Um, because I, I know that I see the success stories. I see someone like Derek to went from kind of a startup, kind of a. they’re during that phase where they’re not really getting a lot of traction with their good people and now they’re making $100,000 a month of profit. Direct research.com. Check them out. I look at barbee cookies, makes great cookies for years. Former school teacher struggling to get traction. I watch her expand her business. Barbie cookies.com. Tip Top canine. Great dog trainers. Been training dogs for over nine years. I watched some now opening up multiple locations. That’s what gives me joy. That’s my super power is to help people grow successful businesses. So this is now you think about the timeline. Uh, my wife and I were talking about this last night.

This is my seventh year producing the content that you hear on the show. My seventh year doing this. So seven years into producing content, three of which we’ve been doing, just the constant podcast. We have seven years of content behind the wall there. You can listen to thousands of videos, thousands of videos. Now, the majority of the world is not interested in becoming successful and I’m not talking about the majority of the world. Um, and the Bible, there’s a story about how you know Christ speaking. The shepherd went back for the one lost sheep. You know, the one there was a bunch of sheep, but he went back to find the one. You hear stories of the Marines and they never leave somebody behind. The never leave. A soldier behind this podcast is for you. If you feel like you’re left behind or you feel like no one has the time to meet with you, this podcast is for you.

And so last week, Seth Godin, the legendary entrepreneur who has been probably one of the top selling entrepreneurs in terms of books in the past decade, Seth Godin, legendary. I’m John Lee Dumas, the top podcasts of all time with entrepreneurs on fire. Lee Cockerell, the former executive vice president of Walt Disney world resorts. He had Michael Levine, the top public relations expert of all time, of all time. This guy’s worked with Michael Jackson, Nike, Prince, President Bush, President Clinton, Nancy Kerrigan, Charlton Heston. I mean, you think about the people that we’re having on the show, people that are reaching out to us like Rashad Jennings to be on the show. I mean this is a nfl player dancing with the stars winter. I mean we’re getting some huge names on the show. Why? Because I focused on it, you know? So when you record a show and you see there’s one download, I mean that’s kind of discouraging offer mom, did you download it?

Is that you mom and then when you had neck? No, that was the guy who produced it. Just making sure it works. You’re like, oh crap. You know? And then when you get two and then four and then eight, that’s Kinda discouraging. Sixteen feels like terrible, you know, 32 downloads. It’s like, should we kill ourselves? Sixty four. It’s like well maybe we shouldn’t kill ourselves but we should at least, you know, I don’t know. We, we definitely should take, do engage in high risk activities that have a lot of adrenaline because we don’t value our lives. But then once you get 100,000 downloads and then 300,000 downloads, all of a sudden you feel like, wow man, I’m the man. I’m the man. I’m the man doing no, no you don’t. You don’t. This is not how it works. People think that’s how it works. Now what you do is you say, I am not going to quit until I get there.

I’m not going to get any of my focus to anything else until we get there. They’re being wherever the goal is. So right now I’m focused on in the area of installing the camp Clark and chicken palace Lampoon Lagoon. And you might say, what is the Lampoon? Well, there’s, you know, the president show National Lampoon’s. But very few people have actually thought about what the phrase lampoon means to lampoon something is to publicly criticize or ridicule using irony and sarcasm. And I feel like the dad is what I do. I overall mock the way that life is. I feel like I’m like a Peter Pan sit to you from entrepreneur land. I don’t live the life that everyone else does. I don’t get a job that sucks so I can retire some day with lithium, mediocre existence. I live my life in an epic way. That’s what I do.

Ethics are filled with huge winds in major tragedies like braveheart. There’s epic winds and huge tragedies. That’s what an epic life is all about, so I sorta lampoon this idea of mediocrity and so the lampoon lagoon might do pools when I’m focused on, so I’ve met with the Pool Guy, Robbie multiple times. I met with Stan, the man, the contractor. We’re going through back and forth right now, line item, looking at everything on the build out lists and trying to decide what’s the best in design and the decor. We’ve shifted the angles of the pool and how’s it going to look in the rock waterfall and the grotto. How’s that going to be? You know, and I obsess on it. They’ll say, what are you? How do you have the time for that? Because I’m not going out to dinner with anybody because I’m not doing anything beyond what’s on my list. I’m not going to local chamber events and I ask you, what should you

be focused on state to attend the world’s best business workshop led by America’s number one business coach for free by subscribing on itunes and leaving us an objective review. Claim your tickets by emailing is proof that you did it. Your contact information to info at thrive time, show.com.

It gaff it gap. What does Ed, Gaf I, D, g, H, a, F I don’t give A. I don’t give a shit.

Earmuffs have focused moment. I don’t give a focused moment to something that doesn’t matter and you shouldn’t either because you only get to live one time that we knew about. Now I do believe because of my faith as a Christian, I do believe that we get to live in eternal bliss in fellowship with our creator up in heaven. You might say, that’s a bunch of crap. That’s much crap. I tell you did well then for you, it’s even more urgent that we do this right. You know, so step one, you want to think about and define your f six goals daily. Now, Sean, I want to get your take on this and I want to hear, I want to, I want this to be a moment for you and for the listeners out there. Okay. How many days a week do you get up and make your goals for the day? Like if you had to say in a typical week, how many days a week do you do it now?

Right now? Yeah, I do it six days a week. On Sunday I typically have that as kind of a free day. There are a few things on the calendar that I do, but I don’t play in those out there. Just repeatable thing.

Got It. Okay. So six days a week. And when you make goals for your faith, your family, your finances, your fitness, your friendship, your fun, how do you feel after you have a day where you did all the things on your to do list?

It’s a. You had Jimmy Hendrix playing at the beginning of the show. It’s like that. You feel like after you just listen to Jimi Hendrix shred, aren’t you? You’re like, yes,

that’s good. You feel good about it? Oh yeah, okay, so now that you have make those goals everyday, you put it in your schedule. The first thing people run into, especially entrepreneurs, is they run into people trying to take your time. For me, I will tell you the big three in my life, the big three distractions that I have that I must fight against on a daily basis. All right? One is social media engagement is a huge thing for me because I own businesses that are very public. Every week somebody will write something on social media that is not true about myself and when they do, um, do I give my time to it, you know, that’s the question. Social media. The second is unsolicited dinner engagements. I literally could go out to dinner every single night if I want to do with somebody else and uh, two things would happen. One, I will begin to look like Jabba the Hutt after eating all of the bread. Every place you go out to eat, they’re like, do you guys want some bread? And you’re like, well, I kinda treat high protein, low carb. So do you want some bread? Like, wow, I’d probably start with some bread. Next thing you know you’ve had like 87 breadsticks and like, so what do you want to have for them?

We’ll go ahead and have some chicken soaked in butter and

then so you go out to eat every day. It’s not a good thing for you, but also you lose your evenings every night, every night you lose your evenings. So there’s always these dinner engagements. Someone always wants to meet me for dinner. So when we do is we have an in person workshop. We have thousands of podcasts, literally thousands of podcasts, thousands of videos and soon we’ll be bringing to the forefront of it happens soon, not tomorrow, but soon. Our program, we have 160 clients is the most we’re ever going to take. I’m not to take any more than that. And as soon I’ll be introducing, um, it’s clay Clark University powered by thrive 15. We’re really going to have 2,500 people in the program period and it’s 20 bucks a month and then that’s it. No more ever put it up on bill because if you are a member of the thrive time show.com, if you’re a subscriber to it, you can email a question and we will answer your question, but we can only do that for 2,500 people.

If you want to come to our workshop, you can, but only if you’re one of those 2,500 people and we’re not going to grow bigger than that because I’m. I can’t accommodate more people than that. I can’t, I can’t do it. So I had to set limits for my my time. Right. But, but dinner engagements, I mean I want to help our listeners out, but I have boundaries, right? There’s always somebody who has a burning fire through. We have hundreds of thousands of people downloading our podcasts. Somebody always has an emergency. There’s always a, a dinner engagement though. There’s always a social media engagement and there’s always a burning fire due to somebodies lack of preparation do to somebody’s lack of preparation. So the other day, it was probably about two months ago, somebody says to me, hey, tomorrow this person is going to be in town and I have no plans for what we’re going to do when they’re in town.

What should we do? I can’t tell you how pissed off I was because we’ve known these people are coming to town for months and it’s a last minute question so I could ruin my entire day or that particular meeting or get distracted with things that don’t matter. But we’ve got to get through that business coach agenda. You know, we’ve got to get through that and somebody will usually will just not prepare. They’ll say like, hey, you know, I’m, I’m here at the airport. Could you pick me up? That’s the question. And I’ll answer the phone during my phone times. I’ve told him today I have my phone on and this is true story. Somebody called me said, can you pick me up the airport? And I said, Hey, I’m actually here with the kids. We’re going a little dead date, you know, and they’re going, yeah, but I’m at the airport and I’m going.

So I said, did you know when did you first have the a glimpse into the future? When did you first have the inclination? The first had the, the, the, the nudge tugging at you. That reminded you that you might be boarding a plane soon and going to the airport. When did you first have this idea though? Oh, I booked it a few months ago. Okay. So when did you, when did it occur to you that you are now in the Tulsa airport in you need to return from the Tulsa airport in a vehicle and they were like, wow, I just, I just didn’t think through it. It’s like right when the plane was landing. No, seriously. They’re calling me after they land saying, can you pick me up and said, here’s what I do. I’m not going to pick you up, but you’re going to learn how to download the Uber App and then I’ll reimburse you.

I’ll pay you because that’s a better use of my time just to pay the Uber Guy. Hey, well how do you do it? I don’t do technology. We’ll figure it out. Have a good day. Because I would’ve lost another evening going to the airport last minute as a result of somebody not planning or a random dinner engagement or a social media thing. I think, I mean if you look at the average American right now, these are not. These are not concerned for me, but the average American is wasting huge amounts of time watching TV. Do you have the average American right now is watching over five hours of TV per day according to all the studies out there from Nielsen. Do you have the average American is spending over two hours a day on social media. It’s seven hours gone. How in the world do you do? How can you do all those things and become successful? Sean, I don’t believe that you can.

So you can’t be successful if you spend all your time. Social media, dinner engagements, burning fire, watching TV. Yep. So you’ve got to say no to things which leads us into the next point, and this is the part that people don’t want to do. Steve Jobs says people think focus. I don’t give a focus. People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on, but that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to 100 other good ideas that there are. You’re saying no to good ideas. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to a thousand things. Shawn, can you read it again with your most epic voice?

People think focus means saying yes to the things you’ve got to focus on, but that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundreds of other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to things.

If you’re out there, you have to understand that you have to say no to a lot of things and I think that’s the part that’s hard for people. So Sean, we come back from the break. I’d like for you to conjure up any questions you have for me about saying no because I’m 37. I’m a man, bear pig. I a Jabba the hut and I have a lot in common in terms of our facial prowess. We’ve, I, I’m not I, I’m, I’m just old enough where I don’t care and some people, never somebody we’re like 75 and that’s the first time in her life to get to a place where they just don’t care, but you have to care about your goals enough to tell everybody else you don’t care about anything else except for those goals. If you’re ever going to have success, you’ve got to care so much about the goal that you don’t care about what people have to saying.

Moses, think about this. Moses led people through the wilderness and the entire time in the Bible, if you read the Bible the entire time that people are complaining, are we there yet? Moses, are we there? Moses? I’m hungry. Let’s build a false god. Let’s have an orgy in a false god. Let’s do an orgy. False. God makes us make a golden calf. Moses, you know everyone’s running around one to distract to Moses, but he didn’t care. He didn’t take an opinion poll to see if he was liked. He made sure he did the right thing as he believed he was supposed to do, and if you’re out there and you say, you know what, I want to do the right thing. I don’t want to give my focus to get my spine in line. I want to improve my spinal health. I encourage you to check out Dr John Sibley Dot Com. It’s Dr John Sibley Dot Com. He’s the chiropractor of choice for the great one. Wayne Gretzky from the NHL. It’s Dr John Civilly Dot Com. Check them out today,

per station. It is the thrive time show on your radio and podcast downloads. We’re talking today about this subject that I care so much about because I care so much about you. It’s I don’t give a focused moment. I don’t give a, hey, I don’t give up focused moment to something that doesn’t matter. It Gaf. What does that mean? What happens is every single morning, if you’re going to become successful, you have to get up every single day. It’s called Metta time. You might call it prayer time, quiet time, meditation time. I’m not gonna argue with you, but it’s not a religious thing. I’m not getting up and going, okay,

here we go. The universe. Where do you want me to change my oil? I feel tugging, tugging. You want me to get my oil changed at the five, five, five, five, but I just. I think I just said the word five, which is a double edifier. I just said five and I thought five. Somebody now has been a witness witness. Are you saying I should go to witness security to get my security system installed and installed? Brian’s with Paul. Paul wrote a lot of the Bible.

I should read that part of the Bible. Bible arrives with tribal. I should join a tribe, a tribe. There’s a tribe. A book is a book about tribes, raving fans, raving fans. I am a fan. I had to book my tickets to the Patriots tonight.

No, but you see a lot of over spiritual mystics running around over spiritualizing. This concept, it just. You get up everyday. You ask yourself, what do you want to do today in the areas of your faith, your family, your finances, your fitness, your friendships, and your fun. You’ve got a scheduled time every single day to do those things. You make your goals for the day. Step two, you put it into your calendar and you have major wasting time wasting activities that people tend to spend their day doing. And I encourage you not do these things, but this is a lot of people spend their day doing his social media engagement, which is kinda like the new drug. By the way, if you don’t have the courage to do heroin, you just go on social media a lot because heroin is at least, um, it’s like you’re going, this is illegal.

This is a waste of time. This is counterproductive. This hurts me. You know, heroin, cocaine, cocaine is terrible, right? It’s against the law. It’s banned substance. It’ll kill you if you know it’s bad. You know, it’s against the law. You’re saying, hey, I’m wasting time. I don’t care about my health. But sitting in a chair, looking at a smartphone, engaging in emotional disputes and debates with people. You Begley no while trolling through facebook feeds and looking at pictures of your ex girlfriend wondering, look at her body, her. There she is. Oh, there’s just, that’s not good either. Right? So social media. My mind is the new drug dinner engagements. Just feeling like you’re important. Oh, tonight I’m gonna. Move to chamber. Tomorrow I meet with the rotary Tuesday. I meet with this, with the board. I meet with the team. I meet with them. Your meeting, your meeting, like your name is angus meeting, like your name is angus. She said, I did it right there at thrive nation. That was. That was pretty

credible. It’s pretty sad when you have to use a laugh track to make us that way, but it worked, right? So

then you got to burn. You got burning fires do to someone’s lack of preparation. You, you surround yourself with idiots who always have emergencies. Everyone in your life is an idiot because you’re an idiot and you’re shooting or something that gets in. It’s this. They always have a burning fire due to lack of preparation. They always have their car exploded. They can’t get to work on time. They’re drunk. They need to be picked up at the bar. Could you pick me up at the bar? I’m hammered and I went to drive responsibly and so you show up there half drunk to pick up your drunk friend from the bar if that’s your life. I mean, if you’re like, I woke up and I didn’t even know she was. I mean, that’s a problem with a little too much socializing, too much alcohol. They’re burning fires, you know, watching too much TV to every person’s watching.

Five hours of TV a day according to Nielsen, five hours of TV a day. Now we get into the more degenerate things. You go, those people are crazy. That was a crazy people. This is stuff that’s above. This is below you. You’re above this, but this is where a lot of people get stuck, but this is because social media is so much better. Oh, wasting time or watching TV. That’s so much better, but this. These are the things we will be frowned down upon. We said, this right here is terrible addictions. People that just get hammered every single day. That’s what they do. They just drink, drink, drink, drink, drink, drink, drink, drink, drink, scotch, scotch, Scotch. Gambling, gambling. People that are adults who just loved the sound of running. Meaning meaning, meaning bringing to. I mean, why is it not illegal? It’s so stupid. The poor tax. It’s the best way to tax poor peoples to put up flashing lights because something about the combination of ignorance and wanting to get rich quick attracts these people like free buffet.

Are you telling me it’s a free buffet law? I’ll tell you, I’ll get crab legs removed, a free drinks, a 45 year old when we’re in cocktail dresses they shouldn’t wear. That’s cool. I mean because I’m so drunk, I don’t even know what. I can’t even remember what they look like. I mean, you know, I mean, have you ever been there? Have you seen these people? These 45 year old cocktail waitresses were in miniskirts I shouldn’t be wearing. Well, you know, guys who are got a stolen. They got an oxygen tank while smoking gun. Hey, I would like to double down on the, uh, over the. I want to double down. I mean casinos, gambling, addictions. I mean, so you gotta like not waste your time on those kinds of things. Okay. So you got to, you gotta to say yes to what matters. So Shawn, let’s just say that we haven’t covered, you know, there’s something on here that we haven’t covered that you work with business owners who mean well who are trying to be successful. Talk to me about where you see a lot of people being distracted or any questions you might have for me about managing my calendar.

Well, um, I guess my question would be for those of us who I think what you’re talking about here is saying no to things and initially probably a lot of people think, well, I’m going to say no to other things, things that are outside, but the important piece that I’m getting here is it’s all a habitual thing. We were talking about waking up every day and working through your goals. The real habit that’s hard to do is saying no to yourself because you want to go get that cheeseburger. You want to go to dinner. You don’t want to go work out instead. I mean I faced this just this week. I really wanted El Tequila. I really wanted it just all the way home. I knew I had to work out, but I wanted the Elta Keela. But I told myself no. And that was like a habit that I’ve started to develop and it bleeds over into all the other areas. But without that thing of trying to tell yourself no for what you want to do in order to sacrifice for your future, that’s like a really hard habit to get going. So I guess what would your advice be if you just have never been in that habit of telling yourself no?

Um, well, the, my encouragement for you is if you do it, you’ll be successful and if you don’t, you won’t be successful. So you’d have to decide right now if the decide right now and what I to do is I want to play a little audio here from an artist named Ed Sheeran. And if you look up Ed Sheeran, he talks, he talks about this a lot, but to write his last album and really take his music to the next level. He had to focus. So he decided to turn off his devices, to disengage from social media and to dispute and is ready to invest a year focused on becoming the best musician he can possibly be. So in this song, it’s called you need me. The song is about focus focusing. And the song about focusing requires him to focus. And so I’m putting a link to it on the show notes so you can all watch it.

But this song, uh, it’s on warner sound. It’s got $22, million views. Ed Sheeran is playing all the instruments, so it starts off him playing the guitar and then through using a looping pedal, it’s a basically a machine that allows you to repeat your own sounds. He then adds into percussion using the guitar. So he starts out with the, with the, with a guitar that he builds with the percussion. Then he adds in sound effects on the mic. He begins to beat box. He puts all of this together in a way that absolutely is captivating. If you haven’t seen it, you need to go see it. But it requires focus. He doesn’t take phone calls, he doesn’t allow himself to be interrupted it. The logo of focus needed to play one instrument, let alone all the instruments and a chorus and around with perfect harmony and melody and sick of patient that percussion, the entire tapestry that makes this song work blows my mind.

And the lyrics I agree with and the lyrics are about focusing as well, so everybody to do listen to the lyrics, the song, try to, if you can turn off all the distractions for just a moment and listen to this song and see if it takes you to the place that I wanted to take you to. Because this song right here is about focusing. I’m asking you, what do you need to say no to? I mean, ed Sheeran realized, I’ve got to say no. I’m a famous person. I’ve got to say no to to social media and the mindless activities. I just turned my phone off and focus on my music to take it to the next level. And so without any further ado, ed Sheeran Song you need me. I don’t need you.

Break it down. Thinking of making a new sound, playing a different show every night. If a new crowd that’s you. Now Charles scenes, adoptees right now. See me lose focus as a singing d’you know harsh. I say either words make you blush. I’m going to seeing this now. High is some like glue will stick to other artists. I’m not picking now. That will be disastrous. That missing them doing my thing and moved to greener pastures will only show me ever call me that up on stage. Give me the chance to be free of suffocate the EBA, man, I don’t need you. Don’t need. You. Don’t need you. It’s doing good evening

nation. It’s so easy to say, gosh, he’s so talented. Let me let you in on a little secret. Talent is like gold. It’s buried in the surface below the surface, so you’re out there and you might be living on land that has gold buried underneath it, but you got to dig and dig and dig and dig and dig and dig the wrong direction. Dig The wrong way. Find the discover where all the gold isn’t before you find the gold. It’s like oil, natural gases for fossil fuels, very deep beneath the tectonic plates of this planet. Deep below the Earth’s crust, you’ve got to dig deep and there’s machines that are very expensive and there’s a lot of work and someone had to think about is Rockefeller was the first guy to harness the earth. Fossil fuel here. To think you know, there’s fossil fuel down there, a lot of people think that, but then it’s like, how do we get it?

We got to make a machine. You got upset. How do we make the machines? Who’s going to make the machine? Who knows how to do this? Who’s done it before? Nobody, but Ed Sheeran just kept pressing down, digging deeper and deeper and deeper and developing this thing called talent. I mean, lyrically, just try to sing along with that song. Just thinking a percussion. Just try to play it on the drums, the guitar. Try to play along with it. I mean, that is sick. That is unbelievable. That right there is a laser show of talent and that talent came as a result of hard work. It’s not a god given. Just, Oh, you’re talented. People want to just say next. It’s so easy. It’s so easy to say, Seinfeld is just so funny. No, he’s been digging deep for years and if you’re going to go out there and you’re going to want to become the best and most successful entrepreneur that you can possibly be, you’ve got to learn how to master yourself. Had a board down while the rest of the world struggles with boredom. When the rest of the world struggles with boredom, you my friend must board down. If you want to master anything and to become truly successful, stay tuned.

I remember my days back to like the pimp with the doubts that try to consume for the future that I can pursue what? From the mountain top. Now I can do clue that you have what it takes to do you want your success. You today is and now three, two, one. Boom. You are now entering the Dojo of Mojo and the thrive time show, thrive time. Show on the microphone. Is this top of the charts in the category of business driven down on business topics like we are a dentist, provided you with interest shift lucky over the past that you might get motion sick rather pat in three, two, one. Here come the business, thrive nation, welcome back to the thrive time show on your radio, and on today’s show we’re talking about the concept of

it, Gaf, meaning that I don’t give a focused moment to things that don’t matter, and you can’t either. If you want to become successful, you’re going to have to become very, very good at saying no to almost everything out there because anything not related to your family, your faith, your friendships, your fitness and your fun is a distraction. So I’m going to wage war on this friend idea for a second. I’m sean. You’re a business coach. You’re not a friendship expert, but you’re a good guy. Um, I feel like you have healthy relationships with people. And I want to get your take on this. I feel like a lot of people struggle with this idea and I really want you to have to break it down to tab a friend of a friend. If you’re talking about your goals for your faith, your family, your finances, your fitness, your friendship, your fun to have a real friendships. And it’s beyond just an acquaintance. I am of the belief that you have to spend time with the person [inaudible] wow. This is deep. And you have to share the same values as the person. Yeah. Maybe you disagree with the values part, but let’s get into time. Why do you have to spend time with somebody? If you want to develop a friendship?

Well, you gotta get to know them. You can’t just do that in like two minutes spurts at once every month. You know, that’s an acquaintance. You really make a friend when you’ve bonded over experiences, you know, smores by the fire whiskey in the man cave.

So when I get a friend request on facebook, um, do you, do you think that’s a friend friend request? I mean, do you mean, do you mind if I get a facebook friend request? Is it a, is it a friend requests in your opinion?

No, I mean it’s a facebook friend requests, but

I mean, if it was, if it was accurate, what would it be called in your mind?

Uh, it’s like on Linkedin, a connection, right?

They call it a connection. That’s a, to me, it’s the same thing on facebook. It’s a connection that you’ve made with somebody digitally. It’s called the acquaintance claims droll. It’s an acquaintance troll requests, like if I don’t know you and I reach out to you and I say, Hey, will you. I think we just renamed it. We’d probably have less people doing that, but it’s like, hey, I would like to be an acquaintance troll, so what I want you to do is just, I just met you. I met you at an event or I heard you are connected to you. Somehow I would like to have the permission if it’s okay to look through all your photos of the past 10 years in the just I want to look through all of them, you know, ex girlfriends, boyfriends. I didn’t push her going, I want to know where you’re at at all times.

I want to know is that cool? We just met. I mean imagine meeting someone on an airplane. You’re sitting next to them. You’re like, so what’s your name? Where are you from? From Tulsa. Where are you from, Doug? Well, I’m from Michigan. Oh really? Michigan, yeah, I’m from Minnesota. Kind of close cousins, don’t you think? Yeah, they are. Go. Well, here’s the thing. Um, can I, can I get access to all your photos real quick? I just want to look through. There’s just open up your phone man. Yeah, I mean do you. I mean I just. Can I look through that? I mean I look through all those. I mean, do you have any photos of you swimming photos? Do you have any, can you take. I mean, I’d like to see all the photos of where you are eating recently and I’d like to meet anyhow.

Is that cool? I know we just met, but can I look through your wallet? Can I do that? Is that cool? I mean, can I borrow your pants? I mean, I don’t know at what point that conversation gets weird, but if someone I just met on an airplane said, do you mind if I look through all your photos? Would you say yes to that? No. Be like, get away from me Weirdo. Hey, since we just met though, can I look through all your photos? No bright. So facebook friend requests, I don’t know whether they’re actually friend request. I think I. I believe there shouldn’t be renamed as facebook acquaintance troll requests. Do you, are you acquainted with this person? Yes I am. Do you mind if they troll through your photos? No. Okay. That shouldn’t be the question. Right? I mean, isn’t that the thing you click?

No, no. I mean to me facebook is just marketing, right? So I don’t, I don’t even care and I don’t, I don’t really post anything that’s ever divulging anything. You know, I just looked through the vomit of life and post the kernels of corn on facebook, you know what I’m saying? I mean that’s what it is. But in order to become successful, you’ve got to say no. And there’s so much facebook drama, I think on my face because we pull five facebook, you know, I’m full of Shit. I hear. See facebook, facebook, go on facebook to see how much I’m worth as a human face book. Facebook can I want up my best friend, facebook, facebook, facebook. How many people do I randomly know who? Facebook. Facebook. Oh my gosh. That’s a regrettable photo face book, face book. Look at her. I used to date her facebook face book.

I mean that’s facebook. I have 2000, 566 people that I know. Therefore I’m the man or not. The main was not good enough. Maybe it’s too good. Let’s go through it and waste our day for a second. Let’s read through my update. It works. Someone’s running about the new facebook features and add for sem rush. A good company, a, somebody is losing their mind about. They’re a group. They’re just going on talking about the. A group didn’t go well last night. Alcoholics anonymous, which is hilarious that someone would post there. Amy didn’t go well. It’s called alcoholics anonymous. It’s supposed to be where people don’t know. Somebody here is asking a question whether you would like whether you’d rather have a million dollars or all the free time in the world and they want to know your response because they’re pitching an mlm. Then we have A. AAA has got an ad here for me.

Um, we got a guy going online talking about. Usually you shouldn’t have a concealed carry permit unless you don’t trust people. We got somebody posting a photo of a forest fire. Really getting passionate about how people are not helping in America is not being responsible enough. Um, it’s. I mean, this is, this is good stuff. This is the stuff I’m missing out on. I need to spend more time up here. This is awesome. No, you got to not give a focus to the things that don’t matter. And so Ed Sheeran, grammy winning artist, there’s an article you can read in Teen Vogue magazine where he writes, he says, here’s why I got rid of my cell phone. I got rid of my phone as my new year’s resolution. Let me give you my epic music going. This is kind of big here. This is Ed sheeran explaining how he got so good at music so fast and how he’s improved his life dramatically by turning off his smart phone. He says, I got rid of my phone as my new year’s resolution and told Ellen I bought an ipad

and then just work off of email. It’s so much less stress. I don’t wake up in the morning and having to answer 50 messages of people asking for stuff. It’s just like wake up and go have a cup of tea. This isn’t the first time that Ed has taken a step back from technology. Just over a year ago. He shared on instagram about taking a tech detox. Hello all. I’m taking a break from my phone, my emails and all social media for awhile. I’ve had such an amazing ride over the past five years, but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not, not my eyes. So I’m taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything that I have missed and it goes on. I mean, this is real stuff though, I think. I think a lot of people really struggle with the idea of getting off their smartphone. It’s like they,

um, you know, they’re, they’re addicted to it. It’s like they just cannot stop being on their phone. It’s like they’re, they feel like somehow they’re getting ahead, more linkedin connections and more friend invites and more people read tweeting. They, they, they view their, they ask themselves, am I successful as a human? And they base their answer based upon how many facebook friends they have. Now, if you’re out there and you say, listen, I have a real business and I want to grow my real business and I need somebody to really help me grow that real business and to build an actual building for me. If you’re looking for a quality contractor, checkout Williams contracting to Williams contracting. Their phone number’s nine. One eight, six, eight,

two, five, five, one, one. We’ll dash conn.com to men. Thirteen multimillion dollar businesses, eight kids, one business coach radio show. It’s the thrive time business coach radio show with Dr Zellner and Clay Clark

to the conversation. It is the thrive time show on your radio and on today’s show we had a wonderful couple by the name of Doug and Sarah that were referred to us by their friends and they reached out to us too. I want to know how can I grow our meal delivery service? They wouldn’t know how can we grow our meal delivery service because they want to leave their corporate jobs and they want to leave a legacy for their kids. They want a golf board. They wouldn’t have time freedom. Really that’s what growing a successful business is all about is creating time freedom and financial freedom so that you can do whatever you want to do, and so I looked over there at 13 point assessment and I wanted to take the time to walk them through the proven path to grow a successful meal delivery service.

So chuck, before we can really get into the steps, we want to clarify what trade offs that they’re willing to make in order to make the business to become successful. Right? Can you talk to me chop about. Just read, read the kind of the, the, the, the points. But I want you to talk with you. We actually owned a company. You’ve actually been in the trenches of owning a business that I would like for you to share your thoughts and then after you read the excerpt about some of the tradeoffs that we’ve made to make our lives and financial freedom possible.

Yeah. So first of all, you know, clay started working at applebee’s in target and directv when he was building dj connection. Him and Vanessa both lived without air conditioning drain Oklahoma Summers. I think it’s been getting up to heat index of 110 lately, but we lived on love, lived on love living for love in all the right places. That’s what clay was doing. I became familiar with life lived before 5:00 AM. Most people don’t even know that there is a 5:00 AM. It’s crazy, let alone waking up at 3:00 AM every day. But most of our successful clients we work with are very used to 5:00 AM. You know what else? They’re very used to. What’s that? No TV, no TV. We don’t watch TV. Are you making money off of that TV? And then, um, you know, very little to no time spent with anybody? Not that is not engaged in a win win relationship or that’s related to or connected to achieving your goals.

So for somebody out there who’s wanting to leave corporate America to start their own thing, chuck, talk to me about these tradeoffs because you’ve coached so many clients who you’ve helped become very successful, but I don’t think most people are used to that grind and specifically the tradeoffs. Talk to me about the trade offs you have to make to become

accessible specifically. You’re going to have to start learning to say no to things because the first one to have eight years of your business is all you. You have to have that magnificent obsession and if you’re not thinking about it in the shower, thinking about it before you go to bed, working on things in the middle of the night. If you’re not doing that, you’re not going to be able to build a sustainable business that can create time and financial freedom. Yes, you might do what tons of people do. Get caught in that hamster wheel of creating a business that creates financial freedom. But the sad thing is whenever the better your business does, the worse your life gets, and that’s what we’re here to help you not do. Okay, so those trade offs are, you’re going to have to start saying no, no to time spent with people like clay said here on the notes that are attached to your goals and also saying no to buying things.

You’re going to have to start war chest. That’s the other big trends. CanNot spend money. Do not start making money, and then go out and buy a big facility or brand new vehicle or a new house. You can not do it. Charles Colaco, La fitness is the host for this. Worked out of $115,000 house for a good decade in Bartlesville Bartlesville training clients out of his mouth that is a trade off and now they’re doing awesome. Three locations, massive facilities, awesome success, and there have been able to affect the world the way they want to, but it started by making tradeoffs. Now chip, I’m going to go through the 13 steps, like a five minutes. I’m going to read this step

and you break it down so that way our listeners, Doug and Sarah, knows specifically what they need to do. Oh yeah. Step one, determine the number of deals you need to get per week to achieve your goals. Why do you have to know the number of deals you need to get per week to achieve your goals?

This is your roadmap and this is also how you can tell on a weekly basis if you are on the right map or on the right road to achieving your goals. So you need to know what that is. So Day one, Monday, you know, hey, we need 30 deals this week. That means I got to have six on Monday so you to.

You got to determine the number of rejections you need per week to achieve your goals. Why do you have to know the number of rejections?

Don’t shoot for yeses. You’ll want, you’ll go mad. You’re going to get 99 no’s to get a yes, so know the number that you need to get on average to get a yes and shoot for that number.

Step three, design and optimized schedule of the future. It’s really important in your schedule right now. You scheduled time right now for the weekly group interview for daily team. Huddle is you want to meet with your team on a daily basis, day. You want to schedule time weekly to look at your finances and you want to schedule time each week to ask yourself, what am I doing that I should not be doing? You want to schedule time every week to really look at your life and and decide if

you are headed in the right direction. Chip, why do you have to build that schedule from the very beginning? Because if you don’t, the fires will happen of business before you realize it and you will drift and your team will drift in these big goals will all of a sudden you’re 10 years into it and you haven’t made any real progress, especially as a food delivery service. Why do they have to do steps for stop invoicing as soon as possible? Just send people receipts, charge them with a credit card, just like Quik trip does, just like chick filet does. Why can you not get in the habit of invoicing people? You are not a bank, so do not act as a bank. Do not lend them money for your food. Make them pay for your food. Step five, you want to optimize your local google map.

Why do you want to optimize your local google maps? What does that even mean? So everybody is using Google and their smartphone to find whatever they need so they’re looking for meal delivery, meal prep, whatever it is you guys specialize in, they’re going to type that into Google and you want to come up in that little map box at the top of the Google results and that’s why you have to have an optimized your google local business listing. Step six, you want to get 100 google reviews as soon as possible. 100 objective google reviews. As soon as I got 88 percent of people according to Forbes, trust online reviews, but why do we need to get google reviews? You’ve got to get to 100 of years as soon as possible so that you have credibility. Whenever you run advertising, you spend resources, you want to be able to look real and from the very get go and so you’ve got to go out and get those reviews so it’ll help you get to the top of that map listing at the top of Google.

Step seven chap. Here we go. You got to create a Google Canonical compliant website. Why do you have to build a website that is optimized for tons of details? Your coach will walk through these with you one by one, but google was google reign supreme right now. Okay? Everybody is on Google, so google, I know Google and there are no go. Go ahead and do it. So you’ve got to do it. Everybody will make Google canonically compliant website. You’ve got to follow their rules so that you can get to the top of the first page of Google and once you do that, my friends, you dominate the industry. Step number eight, why? What decided to a brainer that works? You’ve got to get the golden look. If people don’t know who you are, they’re not just going to take a chance on you. You’ve got to give them a reason to reach out to you, so get that.

Golden Look is Dr z says with your no brainer offer that is so good that the brain just says, I got to try it. Step nine, design retargeting ads. What is the retargeting ad and why do we have to ever ever have a retargeting ad in place? A retargeting ad falls follows you around the Internet after you visited a website, and so when somebody comes to your site by clicking on a facebook ad or whatever ad week, the retargeting playbook says they’ve got to interact with you four point seven times before they’re going to make that decision to contact. Just because we’re running out of time. Why does everybody have to just follow the proven path? Well, one thing is because it’s a proven path that is a path, so you follow it so you don’t fall off of the mountain. You know if you’re out there and you say to yourself, I want to get my spine in line, I want to. I want to get my back back to where it needs on track. I want to follow the proven path for alignment.

I want to feel good in my lower and upper back. Then checkout the chiropractor of choice for the great one, the Nhl Hall of Famer, Wayne Gretzky. Check out Dr John Sibley Dot Com. That’s Dr John [inaudible] Dot Com. What’s that?

Dr Johnson.

Make sure you never miss a broadcast by signing up for the thrive time show podcast and back to a show that’s cooler than the other side of the pillow is the thrive time business coach show.

Welcome to thrive Dr Clinic. They can thrive nation. Welcome

back to the thrive time show on your radio. Everybody who listens to this show on an ongoing basis, you might notice that I sound like I, uh, my, my nose is clogged. I feel like an underwater right now. I sound like I’m from Minnesota. I feel like I’m, I’m from up north and I, I feel a little bit. Um, I gotta get my good Minnesota accent kind of refined here. He goes, here, you go here. If you’re from Minnesota, you might say, oh, for cute y’all. Barb, I’m going to go up north to the cabin with bjorn. I, I, I, I’m starting to sound like that because my nose is so congested right now that it’s, it’s, it’s unbelievable. So I’ve taken enough dayquil to kill a small goat and so got up this morning at three in the morning and uh, after we produced the show and get it up there, I’m going to go just really hopping, hopping my bed and I’m going to watch is much of.

There’s an nfl series right now called the life of or called in nfl life and it’s like an nfl life. They do a story on like Tim Teebo, they do a story on like Cunningham. I watched one on Steve Smith Jr. I’ve or steve smith senior. I’ve watched one on ray lewiS. It’s awesome. So I’m going to go up there, turn it on and immediately fall asleep. That’s my, that is my goal. So before I do that though, I’m going to break down the proven path for Success for a wonderful client, a wonderful person that has reached out to us by the name of mike and his company offers commercial refrigeration services. And so mike, I’m going to walk you through the steps you need to take to become successful and to and to build that business and to create that time freedom and financial freedom that you need to have. But what I’m going to do today is I’m going to read the step and I’m going to have eric chop break down, specifically eric, chapter three, now into business coach. Break down what it means. So step numbeR one, you’ve got to determine your daily numbers. Why do you have to know chap we taLked about earlier, but why do you have to know the number of deals you need to close per week to achieve your goals?

This is your scoreboard on the map, two year goals, right? You don’t know where you’re at if you’re not keeping score and you also can’t project into the future. So you got to know on average to hIt my goals, I need two deals a week, and then you move on from there. Step two, why do you have to know the number of rejections do need to get

per day? Why? Why does a great person like mike who’s obviously a smart guy, why does he need to know the number of rejections that he needs to get? Pr seems so

fields. Yeah. Well, you’re going to get more rejectionS than yeses in business and life most lIkely. So you want to count those up because you know you’re getting one step closer to a yes if you’re just searching for that. Yes. And you get told a million times it feels odd job. I know. Want to get rejected? I want to build an awesome business. get off the field because it don’t work

like that. Oh gosh. Let me find the right sound effect. Explain how I feel. Okay? Now step number three, you want to design an optimized schedule. A future? Yes. Chuck, why is it so important that you schedule into you? You put into your calendar, the weekly group interview, the daily huddles, the weekly time to look at your finances and the time to ask yourself, every week, am I doing what I should be doing? Why do you want to put those rocks of your group interview, your daily huddles, your weekly financial planning, and asking yourself, what should I not be doing? Why does it have to go into your schedule every week?

Because there are certain things including these right here that clay is listed that no matter what hell or high water you’ve got to do these things for your business and if you don’t have a specific time on your schedule to do them, something will inevitably pop up. SomeThing will break, someone will get sick and you’ll have a distraction and you won’t get them done and you cannot let that happen. As you grow a business.

Chubb, we’ve worked with so many small business owners and step forest, so pad batting cleanup. Why do business owners need to stop invoicing as soon as possible? If it is possible,

harry wanted to chime in there. It just happens too much that you’ve already done the work. You’ve already installed the equipment, created the thing, give it to the person, they decided not to pay you. You’re not a bank, so don’t be a bank. Make sure and get money up front and be proud of in confident of what you do and do not be a bank. That’s the main thing. Step five and on

matt williams, the great san francisco giants, third baseman, batting fifth. Step five. Why do you want to optimize your local google map? Why can you not just let it be how it is?

Let it be, and how do you do it? That’d be it’d be optimum module, google map. Let it be. Don’t make them money. Don’t let it be okay. This is the top of the google research, the map lIsting. There’s three business. Very good, by the way, for you to who he’s made that happen. There’s three businesses that show up at the top of the listing on google, on the search results, and that Is the google map listings, and you have to have an optimized map if you want google to

up there. Okay, step six, this just in from our home office off the coast of step six. Why do you have to get a 100 objective google reviews from real customers as soon as possible?

This is the second step to the map here. You can’t just have an awesome optimize google map and get up there to the top. You’ve got to get 100 to provide credibility for people that are researching you and that’s gonna help you get to the top of that map. You need to get to 100 as soon as possible and you’ve got to double your competition.

Step seven, why do you want to create a google canonically compliant website? What does that even mean? What? What does that even mean? What am I talking about? Why do you have to create a google canonical compliant website? I’m going to give you some epic music so it’s easier to kind of flow with the listeners and to kind of educate us I no idea

if you have a beautiful website with amazing art art, wonderful text and you show up at the bottom of page 10 on google.

It doesn’t matter what because nobody’s going to get there. Nobody’s gonna find you. We’ll help you build out a world class website, but that google also likes so the canonical, the google rules that google has in place, and our team will help. Your coach will walk you through all the variables on that, but you have to have a google canonical compliant website.

Step eight, why do we have to have a no brainer place? Why? Why does a great guy like mike have to have a no brainer in place? What is a no brainer offer? Why does he have to have a no brainer

offered in place? so no brainer offers? Literally what it sounds like, it’s an offer that’s so good. The brain cannot say no,

I don’t even understand why it’s such a good deal. I’m going to do it though. You don’t even have a brain man. I wasn’t really interested and I wasn’t interested in merit medical marijuana, but now that it’s legal, I went ahead and did it and I shot so no brainer offer. These brownies are awesome. You’re welcome. We’ll render an offer,

uh, like, uh, with elephant in the room, men’s grooming lounge. It’s $1 for your first haircut and if you’re not happy, they’ll give you the dollar back. So that is such a no brainer. It’s gates designed to get people’s attention and get them into your facility. Or why do you have to have design? What do you have to design? Retargeting advertisements. So targeting ads are the ones that follow you around and you see what you’ve been looking for online, on other, bigger websites. Okay? It’s very big brother. And what you want to do is when people, you know, if you’re out there and commercial refrigeration, people are going to research you once they find you and you want them to land on your website and then see your ads everywhere they go. So that you are top of mind.

These ads are following black helicopters. Step ted launched the group interview process. Why do you have to launch the group, the group interview process if you.

I don’t want to do this because you enjoy being held hostage by your employees or ever been able to grow your company past yourself because nobody’s in there, you know, don’t do this, don’t do this, but for the people that want to do this, the group interview will absolutely change your life. It’ll give you a river of into your business.

All right, now the three legged marketing stool. Why do you have to have a three legged approach to your marketing? another one legged approach to your marketing. So you want to have three legs to your marketing stool because if soMething happens to a leg and one gets kicked out, if you only have one, you’re on the ground and you’ve got no leads coming in, so you don’t have three legs. You don’t want 17 legs because you can’t track that many. So you want three legs that you can track that you know we’re working. step 12, install that. Tracking. You have to install the tracking. Why do you have to track the lead source and making sure you know where leads are coming from? This is the scoreboard again, right? You don’t know is add a working. Is our cell system working? We don’t know if we don’t know what we’re.

Strike rate is a. You’ve got to track all those results. You’ve got to listen to calls for quality assurance. You’ve got to track everything. This is working on the business and not in it. Step 13, why do you have to create a workflow that includes a wow, why do you have to wow customers and not just satisfy them? You got to wow customers to stand out. Okay, everybody boring is invisible, so you have to wow and to be remarkable means you get remarked about, so you have to do that and you’ve got to pay attention to the sights. Sounds, smells, decor. Every interaction that person has with your brand or your company needs to be top notch. Thrive nation.
