WATCH OUT – BUYER BEWARE

DEFINITION – Charlatan – “A person falsely claiming to have a special knowledge or skill; a fraud.”

  2. EXAMPLE #2 – In the early 1990s, Trudeau was convicted of larceny and credit card fraud. In 1998, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) accused him of grossly misrepresenting the contents of his book, The Weight-Loss Cure “They” Don’t Want You to Know About. In a 2004 settlement, he agreed to pay a $500,000 fine and cease marketing all products except his books, which are protected under the First Amendment. However, in 2011, he was fined $37.6 million for violating the 2004 settlement, and ordered to post a $2 million bond before engaging in any future infomercial advertising. In 2013, facing further prosecution for violations of the 2011 agreement and non-payment of the $37-million judgment, Trudeau filed for bankruptcy protection. His claims of insolvency were challenged by FTC lawyers, who maintained that he was hiding money in shell companies, and cited examples of continued lavish spending, such as $359 for a haircut.
  3. In November 2013, Trudeau was convicted of criminal contempt and is currently serving a 10-year sentence at a Federal Prison Camp in Alabama.   4. EXAMPLE #3 – After a 16-month federal grand-jury probe, Bakker was indicted in 1988 on eight counts of mail fraud, 15 counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy. In 1989, after a five-week trial which began on August 28 in Charlotte, North Carolina, a jury found him guilty on all 24 counts. Judge Robert Daniel Potter sentenced Bakker to 45 years in federal prison and imposed a $500,000 fine. At the Federal Medical Center, Rochester in Rochester, Minnesota, he shared a cell with activist Lyndon LaRouche and skydiver Roger Nelson.
  5. The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit upheld Bakker’s conviction on the fraud and conspiracy charges, voided Bakker’s 45-year sentence and $500,000 fine, and ordered a new sentencing hearing in February 1991.[43] The court ruled that Potter’s sentencing statement about Bakker, that “those of us who do have a religion are ridiculed as saps from [sic] money-grubbing preachers or priests”, was evidence that the judge had injected his religious beliefs into Bakker’s sentence. A sentence-reduction hearing was held on November 16, 1992, and Bakker’s sentence was reduced to eight years. In August 1993, he was transferred to a minimum-security federal prison in Jesup, Georgia. Bakker was paroled in July 1994, after serving almost five years of his sentence. His son, Jay, spearheaded a letter-writing campaign to the parole board advocating leniency. Bakker was released from Federal Bureau of Prisons custody on December 1, 1994. I mean you don’t need to think about it, think about how a company could never grow. If the ceo of the company was constantly involved in the litigation, I mean business law. I absolutely disagree with the idea of the blaming people and using people as scapegoats. Bi-state use everyday everyday, bro, so many business owners I see people literally trying to blame. It’s hilarious to also the owner and the manager come to the meeting and the assistant manager come to me and the meeting were the managers not there. Celebrity conferences and I know that the tony robbins conferences helpful for some people, but he’s big conferences in march. They come back saddle to a 3 grand a month. Marshall, yeah I mean it’s just a big long-term contract, something that they have to then go get financed for tens of thousands of dollars and they do it and then they they get drywall in there. I would just encourage you if you’re out there, if somebody feels like they’re, trying to create a cult or try and replace god in your life run away from that person.
