When I think of adversity, I think of tolerance of rain.
I think of dark clouds.
I think of things that you don’t have any control over, and yet they’re coming at you. And you have to make a decision, what do I do? Do I just stand here, or do I move? You know, growing up in the Mississippi Delta as I did during the era of legal segregation, it was a time that adversity was surrounding one’s life. It was like torrents of rain that had been coming for generations. And sometimes it seems as if it would never stop. But somewhere along the way you ask yourself the question, how do I get out of this rain? What do I do? What can I do to make a difference? To bring some sunshine into my life? Into every life, as the song says, some rain must fall. And rain is what people run away from, to get out of. So let’s talk about it. So today, talking about building a workflow here. James, what percentage of your life have you spent previous to now talking about workflows? Actually, a fairly good percentage. When I was in the military.
There’s workflow, there’s checklists, and you kind of stick to the workflow and the
checklists. Okay, so just as an example, you’re in the military. What kind of crap were you doing? Don’t give us any national security information. You’re going to put your life at risk, but walk us through what’s the kind of repetitive crap you were doing every day in the military?
Well, you know, I had a maintenance job, and so you always had to check-

Yeah. You don’t have to say, oops, I forgot the wrench.
Okay, so let’s talk about that, though. So you’re maintaining missiles?
Can you tell us the serial numbers of the missiles? Okay, now, you’re maintaining missiles, all right?
Okay, you can’t tell us where they were?
Well, so in North Dakota, we have our ICBM nuclear missiles, and so it was those bad boys and the support systems that make them work the right way.

The workflow, baby.
You follow the checklist!

And the workflow is, this is a clearly documented workflow that I have used to build multiple companies and this one particularly relates to fitness. So if you were to buy a business, this particular fitness brand, the stuff in red is the stuff that the corporate will do for you, and the stuff in blue is what you have to do. So James, let’s do a recap here from left to right. So corporate, if you buy this particular franchise, the corporate office is going to do what? The stuff in red. What are they going to do every week? The Google local reviews, the search engine optimization, the Facebook advertising, the retargeting, and the Dream 100. And so you as the guy in blue, the local franchisee, you have to do? I provide the $1 lesson, the package sign

Boom. For this particular franchise system, this business system, it’s so easy.

That’s a great system. I want it. So let’s talk about, so if that was your job, okay, so let’s talk about, okay, so I bought this franchise, this fitness franchise, and I bought it. Okay, I got my gym. I got all my workout equipment. I got, well, geez, what kind of weight should I buy? Oh, no! What kind of workout equipment should I get? Oh, what kind of training regimen should my clients do?” You don’t have to think about any of that because the corporate system, the franchise system provides all of that.
And your job is to do what, James and Blue? Provide the $1 first lesson. Oh, yes!

Okay, and then leads came in to the landing page so you’re proof bro yes they did and then how much can you bench bro that’s a great question bro answer the question don’t dodge it 200 okay so pre-written email bro you send that out bro yeah every week and then pre-written text bro all the time in inbound script you follow that you have to follow the call cuz it’s really important to me that people sound articulate on the phone. I don’t want people sounding like they’re mumbling and stuff. I want people to be easy to understand, man. You guys recording the calls? I want people to sound articulate.

Because I used the one sheet and that’s what I do. You know why? Because I’m the closer, bro. Have you tried the morphine mix with the creatine, bro? I actually never tried morphine with working. Okay corporate. Whatever you don’t get it corporate. It’s a corporate So do you guys do the weekly group interview schedule that for me brah every week job post you put those out brah every week You know what I did I was doing ongoing training and that’s why I’m jacked and that’s why you fat ass is a corporate or not jack because I work Out and you do all the buttons boom buttons. Boom. That’s right. And then you know what I did? I did a cool quality control and I found I’m awesome. We’ll talk to you next week. Boom. And that’s it. That’s the entirety of running the business. Now I gotta ask you, why is this so hard for people? This is the part I want to talk about because I see people, James,
that will come reach out to me and they’ll go,
I have bought a franchise. I bought a franchise and I just, I’m having a hard time making it work. And I say, what franchise did you buy? And they’ll tell me the name of the company. It could be a big name, it could be a franchise we all know, it could be one that we just haven’t heard of yet. And they’ll go, I just have a hard time getting myself motivated to do the items in blue. And I go, you mean you have a hard time providing the first lesson in this case? You have a hard time with signing people up for… Listen, with this particular fitness business model, let me tell you how the whole thing works, okay? The first week of training with this brand is a dollar. Jordan, if you were looking for a personal trainer and the first week was a dollar, would you at least consider it? Yeah. Why? Because it’s just a dollar. James, would you consider it? If you’re wanting to put on like 30 pounds of just raw muscle, would you do it? I would. Why would you not if it’s a dollar? Exactly. Is there cooked muscle? It’s a dollar! Right? Would you not? Of course I would. Right, and in the packages. There’s three packages that the meathead who runs this has to think of. There’s three. Okay? Seriously. There’s personal training, there’s group training, or there’s scholarship-priced training to make it affordable for everybody. That’s it. Why would you… so if you’re working out with someone for three sessions and they like the program, why would they cancel after the third session if they liked it? The only thing you have to focus on is doing a good job. Now, this is a great show to do today because I happen to have an hourgies going on and most people don’t work unless they feel like it. There it is. That’s the hard part, is that you gotta work when you don’t feel like it. Like how you feel is not related to the outcomes that you want to achieve.
They want this workflow to be all red.
And so Jerry West, NBA Hall of Fame player, he says if you only work on the days that you feel like it, then you’re… Let me read the quote here for you. This is Jerry West, NBA Hall of Famer. He says, you can’t get much done in life if you only work on the days when you feel good. And so today, I feel, I’m trying to think of a word. I want to articulate the words. I want to articulate the words. I want to use the right, you know, James, there’s certain adjectives you want to use. You don’t want to overcomplicate. You don’t use too many syllables. But you want to say exactly what you mean.
I feel like ass today. We all know how that feels, right? Yeah. Yeah.
But you know what?
You just show up. Right.
And no one cares how you feel.
No one cares at all.
And it blows my mind that so few people embrace the grind because this is all you have to do. do in this particular business right here. This is all you have to do. And I have helped this particular brand open up four locations. And you know what the problem is with the four people? The four people that run it, and they’re successful by the way, but you know what the issues these
four people have?
They’re weak. They’re going, I don’t feel like working today. My kids are sick. Who cares? Nobody cares if your kids are sick. What’s my birthday? Nobody cares if it’s your birthday.
And I have to tell adults this in their 40s, hey, nobody cares if it’s your birthday. Well, I’m feeling kind of sick.
Well, my wife and I got into a fight. Yet again, no one cares. Furthermore, people definitely don’t want to know. You know? Nobody wants a minute by minute update about your marital problems.
Right? If you’re working out in a gym and your trainer tells you all the time about his marital problems, how many times before you’re saying, hard pass, I’m out?
The first two minutes.
Right. You’re like, shut the hell up. I’m going to go work out. Soap with somebody else.
Am I correct?
Absolutely. So let me ask you this, because Jordan, you’re into fitness. If you sign up for a personal trainer, correct me if I’m—correct me on this if I’m getting something wrong here. There’s three things that you look for in a personal trainer. Correct me if I’m wrong. I’ve worked with so many personal trainers. You want someone who’s consistent.
I mean, if you’re going to do your workout every Monday at 7 a.m., Tuesday at 7 a.m., Wednesday at 7 a.m., Thursday at 7 a.m., Friday at 7 a.m., it’s big enough of a thing for you to move your schedule around to be able to work out at 7 p.m. or 7 a.m. every single day? Yeah, fitness has to be consistent or it’s not like it doesn’t happen. But if your trainer calls you like every second time and goes, hey I can’t make it today, sorry. How many times before you’re done? Probably the second time. Right! So the consistency is a huge thing. Yep. Second, James, don’t you want a trainer that actually knows what the hell they’re talking about, that they’re
following a plan?
Right! Which is why with this particular brand, it’s incredible. When the client signs up, they’re given a book. It’s like this big old booklet. It tells them, this is your log book. This is your log book of your workouts. We’re going to just log how much you weigh now, how much you weigh at the end of the whole thing. We’re just tracking the weight. In there, it gives you simple rules. You’re not supposed to eat any wheat, any sweets, or any alcohol. Okay? So, why, Jordan, do you want to work out with a trainer that has an actual plan that you’re following? Like, you know they’re not just getting in there in the gym and making crap up every
Because if there’s no plan, there’s no goal. If they’re just making stuff up, you don’t know how close you are. You don’t know if you have a goal. You don’t know how close you are to it.
And you know people that, we’ve all seen it, where someone’s clearly making stuff up.
Bruh, what you’re going to do, we’re going to do crusher lunge.
Crusher lunge curls. And then you just what? What are we doing? Crusher lunge curl sprints.
So you want to have you want to have consistency.
Am I correct?
Right. You want to have a plan. And then third is you want it to fit in your budget. And I’m so passionate about this because I just spent today talking to somebody who, it’s unbelievable. I’m just thinking like, did your dad not raise you?
I get it. Okay.
Did your mom not raise you?
Probably not. I get it. Like, did everyone your entire life tell you that your feelings matter? Is that, was that what happened? Because it’s just like, it blows my mind I’m having a conversation with an adult who’s going, man, I just can’t make my system work. Why, why, why, what is it, what about this workflow is so difficult for you? What is it, what is the difficult challenge? What is it, what is the hard part for you?
It looks so easy.
Right. It’s like, what is the, what is the challenge for you? What is the part that’s holding you back? And they’re, well, I just feel like I get anxiety when I ask people, you know, if they want to sign up for the package. This is an actual conversation. I’m going, you have anxiety when you ask another adult if they want to pay you? That means you can’t even work at Subway. What the hell? I mean, seriously, what? Well, can’t we just do like an app with like a QR code where people can sign up? This is a real conversation. No, you cannot do an app. Corporate is doing everything for you. In this particular model, you don’t even have to get reviews.
That’s so easy.
Isn’t that crazy?
It really is crazy.
Jordan, we have people that work at our office that call people all day and get reviews. Right? So the people that work at our office that are getting reviews for our clients, where are they getting the people to call? The people who work at our office, they’re cold calling, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop. Former customers of our clients, where are they getting those customers from?
From the clients.
Right. So the client just has to provide us with the list. Right. And then our people call. Hey, I understand you went to yada yada business. If you could leave us an objective review today about your experience, you have a chance to win a whatever. So this particular model, they don’t even have to get reviews.
Such an easy thing to do.
It’s so easy.
It’s like your car is broken and it doesn’t work, but you don’t want to take it to the
Yeah, because of the anxiety of getting it there.
Think about all the people that I’m going to run into on the road that I’m not paying. What if they feel like, what if the imposter syndrome begins to, do you hear these crazy ass things? Have you heard about this? I have. Imposter syndrome and I’m going, what? I think that’s called weak ass syndrome. What? No, it’s imposter. I’m not kidding. I am talking to adults about this conversation. I just felt like there had to be a show that came out of this. There had to be some kind of satisfaction that came out of this situation.
Wait, what exactly is imposter syndrome real quick?
I don’t even want to know what it is.
Yeah, it sounds weak.
Let me tell you what the people say it is, but we don’t want to know too much about it. Okay.
It’s when you’re having success that exceeds what you deserve.
Oh, come on.
And so you start to feel bad because you’re having more success than what you should have had, which could cause other people to feel like you’re taking their success from them, and so you’re like an imposter because you’re not the real you.
This is real. Look at this plan.
Look at this plan.
That’ll get your wallet biceps.
Now let me continue going through this real quick. Let me just walk you through this, OK? Now this particular business plan, OK, this particular thing, it’s about $150,000 to start it up. Now I’m going to use what’s called a mortgage calculator. Here we go. So I’m typing in mortgage calculator into the great Google machine, okay. And I’m typing in mortgage calculator. We’re going to put 150 grand on that is the amount we’re borrowing, okay. And we’re going to put in like a, like a seven year, okay. We’re going to put in the seven, cause we only got a seven year loan here. Okay. And we got a high interest rate cause we, we’re not getting a good deal. We’re paying like a 9.99% interest rate. Our payment per month for this particular business is only gonna be $1,500 a month. So if your average personal training client pays you $1,500 a month, how many personal training clients do you have to have if you’re the only trainer to break even? One. One.
And then your monthly rent, your monthly cost to be there, the physical cost is gonna be another $1,500 to $2,000 a month. Point is, you only need like five customers total to break even. If you’re the only person who works there. Now, let’s continue with this plan.
This blows my mind.
It’s a true story. Okay. So this plan, this particular system I’m teaching you right now, this is a proven system I’ve used for so many personal trainers. It’s incredible. I get a call, our coaching meeting with this particular, I’m thinking about, this is years back, we have a particular fitness guy I’m working with, and our weekly meeting’s at 8 a.m.
815, 820, no show.
I call him, hey, are you coming in today, are you okay? Bro, oh my gosh, bro, I think I overslept, bro. Bro, oh no, what time is it? I think it’s like 820, oh no! So I’m going, did you miss your 5am, your 6am, your 7am, your clients, your 5am, your 6am, your 7am? Because they’re 40 minute workouts. Did you miss your 5am client, your 6am, your 7am? Oh yeah, bro.
Because there’s something going on, like a demon between the ears or something that’s a bigger issue if you can’t make this business model work. Because this is all that you have to do. It’s mind boggling to me. But I think it’s a bigger, the teaching principle here is you can’t get much done in life if you only work on the days when you feel good. Could we agree on that, James? Could we agree on that idea?
Yes, sir, we can.
Okay, so how many calls have you made? You sell tickets in the office, that’s what we do, people buy tickets for conferences. How many calls did you make today? About 140. Okay, how many tickets have we sold so far today? Maybe 20.
Does it feel good? Does it not feel good?

They both have 2,000 to 3,000 pages of content attached to their website. So to basically go from virtually non-existent on Google to up on the top page is really saying something. But it’s come by being diligent to the systems that Thrive has, by being consistent and diligent on doing podcasts, and staying on top of those podcasts to
really help with getting up on what they’re listing and
ranking there with Google.
And also, we’ve been trying to get Google reviews, you know, asking our customers for reviews. And now we’re the highest rated and most reviewed Pessamon company in the Tulsa area. And that’s really helped with our conversion rate. And the number of new customers that we’ve had is up 411%
over last year. Wait, say that again. How much are we up? 411%. Okay. So 411% we’re up with our new customers. Amazing.
Right. So not only do we have more customers calling in, we’re able to close those deals at a much higher rate than we were before. Right now our closing rate is about 85% and that’s largely due to, first of all, like our Google reviews that we’ve gotten. People really see that our customers are happy, but also we have a script that we follow. And so when customers call in, they get all the information that they need. That script has been refined time and time again. It wasn’t a one and done deal. It was a system that we followed with Thrive in the refining process. And that has obviously, the 411% shows that that system works.
Yeah, so here’s a big one for you. So last week alone, our booking percentage was 91%. We actually booked more deals, more new customers last year than we did the first five months or I’m sorry the first we booked more deals last week than we did the first five months of last year from before we worked with Thrive. So again we booked more deals last week than the first five months of last year. It’s incredible but the reason why we have that success by implementing the systems that Thrive
has taught us and helped us out with. Some of those systems that we’ve implemented are group interviews. That way we’ve really been able to come up with a really great team. We’ve created and implemented checklists. Everything gets done and it gets done right. It creates accountability. We’re able to make sure that everything gets done properly both out in the field and also in our office. And also doing the podcast like Jared had mentioned that has really, really contributed to our success. But that, like I said, the diligence and consistency in doing those in that system has really, really been a big blessing in our lives. And also, you know, it’s really shown that we’ve gotten a success from following those
systems. So before working with Thrive, we were basically stuck. Really no new growth with our business. And we were in a rut, and we didn’t know.
The last three years, our customer base had pretty much stayed the same. We weren’t shrinking, but we weren’t really growing either.
Yeah, and so we didn’t really know where to go, what to do, how to get out of this rut that we’re in. But Thrive helped us with that. You know, they implemented those systems, and they taught us those systems. They taught us the knowledge that we needed in order to succeed. Now it’s been a grind, absolutely it’s been a grind this last year, but we’re getting those fruits from that hard work and the diligent effort that we’re able to put into it. Every six to eight weeks, he’s also doing business conferences where 200 people show up, and he teaches people a 13-step proven system that he’s done and worked with billionaires, helping them grow their companies. So I’ve seen guys from startups go from startup to being multi-millionaires, teaching people how to get time freedom and financial freedom through the system. Critical thinking, document creation, organizing everything in their head to building it into a franchisable, scalable business. One of his businesses has like 500 franchises. That’s just one of the companies or brands that he works with. Amazing guy, Elon Musk, kind of like smart guy. He kind of comes off sometimes as socially awkward, but he’s so brilliant and he’s taught me so much. When I say that, Clay is like, he doesn’t care what people think when you’re talking to him. He cares about where you’re going in your life and where he can get you to go. That’s what I like him most about him. He’s like a good coach. A coach isn’t just making you feel good all the time. A coach is actually helping you get to the best you. Clay has been an amazing business coach. Through the course of that we became friends. My most impressive thing was when I was shadowing him one time. We went into a business deal and listened to it. I got to shadow and listen to it. When we walked out I knew that he could make millions on the deal and they were super excited about working with him. He told me, he’s like, I’m not going to touch it. I’m going to turn it down because he knew it was going to harm the common good of people in the long run. The guy’s integrity just really wowed me. It brought tears to my eyes to see that this guy, his highest desire was to do what’s right. Anyways, just an amazing man. Anyways, impacted me a lot. He’s helped navigate. Anytime I’ve gotten nervous or worried about how to run the company or navigating competition and an economy that’s like, I remember we got closed down for three months. He helped us navigate on how to stay open, how to get back open, how to just survive through all the COVID shutdowns, lockdowns.
