Something that really hit home this week while I was at the radio show recording with business coach Clay and some other great people is that it’s all a numbers game. So many people look at marketing as a hugely daunting task that has no end goal. There is a goal, we just have to find it first. Here is a mindset you have to have when you are trying to get in front of people. You have to be okay, if not excited about the “No’s” that you will get on your journey. No’s just lead you a step closer to your goal.
Maybe your goal is to land a huge business coach client or a number of large clients. The move that Clay has learned is what he calls the Dream 100 system. This is where you make a list of the 100 people that you want to work with and drop off items at their locations weekly. If you drop off goodies and marketing materials, eventually you will notice something. A pattern. You will notice that, after a few months of these drop-offs, you can generally book 1 out of every 100. This is exciting because now you have a goal. Now you know that you just have to get through the 99 “No’s” so that you can get to that one “Yes!”
No’s just lead you a step closer to your goal.
The same rule applies to Google reviews. This is actually a much easier goal to set because Google provides us with exact numbers to look at. If you want to set a proper goal of Google reviews to gather, simply look up your competitors and aim to have three times more reviews than they have. Google favors the site that has been around for the longest period of time so therefore, we have to dominate in order for Google to rank us highly.
Content on your website is another thing you can measure and set a goal to reach. The more content and Google reviews you have, the higher you rank and the more leads you get. You want to look at your competition’s website and see how much content they have and triple that. This is a very tangible goal. If you add “site:” the beginning of your competitors URL, you can see that Google with telling you a rough estimate as to how many pages they have. You should check this monthly so that they don’t rocket above you and so you don’t fall behind in the ranking.
The mindset you must have is to “Go for the No’s”. You can’t beat yourself up every time you don’t book a deal or wake up and you’re not on the first page of Google. You have to look at it and say “That ‘No’ simply means that I am one step closer to the one ‘Yes’ I am aiming for.” If you look at it from this angle, you will stay positive and be able to withstand the rejection that is guaranteed to head your way.
