The Power of Diligence Over Time

Over the past year and a half at the best business coaching program, ThriveTime Show, I have seen the success a diligent doer can earn, as well as the failure they can endure. Growing a business requires diligence and diligence is hard For many, as soon as things get tough they want to quit before they’ve made any headway towards their goal. In business, this cannot be an option. When you are a small business owner it is definitely not an option; your family’s income is dependent on your diligence, making payroll to pay your employees is dependent on your diligence. Creating repeat customers in order to feed said family and pay said employees require your diligence.

Diligence is persistent work towards a goal. Anyone who can apply constant pigheaded effort to their daily tasks will achieve their dreams. To begin, make a list of all the goals for your business. After you have made your list of goals now you need the steps to reach the goals. Now that you have the steps, but constant effort into tasks needing to get done. Every day your sole mission is that of fulfilling the current day’s tasks.

“You can’t get much done in life if you only work on the days when you feel good.” – Jerry West (Hall of Fame NBA Basketball Player)

Every day that your business is open is another day you are able to receive revenue. Most people have an employee mindset and are ready to take off work for every holiday, vacation, or illness that comes around the corner. Don’t forget your birthday, your mom’s birthday, your grandmother’s birthday, the three days you had a stomach bug, one week of vacation and then half a day to get ready for a concert your bought tickets for. Great! With three hundred and sixty-five possible days of revenue a year, you have decided to opt out of 23 of those days. Almost a full month of possible revenue gone. Jerry West, hall of fame basketball player said it best, “You can’t get much done in life if you only work on the days when you feel good.” Amen. Remember diligence is the constant pigheaded work towards your goals that will help you reach your dreams.

How else can we be diligent with our time to achieve success? Put your head down and grind, keep track of your numbers and watch them grow, when the numbers aren’t growing to ask why to find a solution and continue on. Many people get discouraged as soon as they encounter a problem, an employee quit out of the blue, their leads aren’t coming in as quickly, or Google took down all of their reviews and they are no longer page one on Google. Every week you are open is another week you will have a problem arise. If you allow the burning fires to consume you and slow you down your end date of reaching success will get pushed further down the road. Again I say put your head down and grind. I do not mean to put your head in the sand and ignore the problems. Instead, assess the situation, find a solution, apply said solution and plow on ahead.

Diligence is not a complicated concept, the application is just difficult in a world full of distractions and excuses. Take today and make up your mind to stay in the fight and face your obstacles every day, wake up and open the doors whether you feel great or not, whether it is your birthday or not, whether it is Columbus day or not. Diligently stick to your goals day after day after day and one day you will see that the hard work reaped a harvest of time freedom and financial opportunities you didn’t have before. “Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.” – Proverbs 10:4
